‘Incredible’: Colton Dixon Celebrates 1,000 Children Sponsored During Tour

Christian musician Colton Dixon is celebrating the 1,000 children sponsored during his Build a Boat tour through his partnership with Compassion International.

“We’re such big believers in that – kids getting the help that they need, the love that they need,” Dixon shared. “It’s wild to me how many kids don’t get what even kids here in America do, although we’ve got that issue here in America as well. But to know that we have sponsored that many kids on a tour is incredible.”

While on his Build a Boat Tour, Dixon told fans about Compassion International’s mission. The child advocacy ministry pairs children living in poverty with individuals who can provide a monthly financial gift.

“Through sponsorships and donations, we empower local churches to provide individualized and holistic care to children in poverty so they are free to learn, grow, play and dream,” their website reads

“Someone comes along on the tour, and they kind of share [with fans] about Compassion and what they do, and they share stories and then invite people to help,” the singer said. “It was just amazing to see the response.”

He continued, “I didn’t even realize that until like the second to last night of the tour. I was in my bed that night. And I just teared up. I’m like, ‘God, that’s so cool.’ You don’t always see the end results as you’re in the trenches and chipping away.”

Dixon is touring to support his hit single “Build a Boat,” which topped Billboard’s Christian AC Chart.

“God has just used this song,” Dixon said of the single. “When that song comes to our setlist, it’s like we have a front-row seat into what God has been doing and is doing in their lives. And it is just remarkable.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Dixon’s “Build a Boat”:

Christian Artist Colton Dixon further discussed his hit song, ‘Build a Boat.’

Dixon was inspired by the biblical event of Noah and the building of the ark.

“There’s this big struggle between God and Noah, with Noah saying, ‘You’ve got the wrong guy. I don’t want to do it.’ And God asks Noah to build an ark—giving him all the specifications—and then the Bible says Noah did exactly as God had asked him. Period. There was no wavering. Noah was faithful,” Dixon stated in an interview.

The faithfulness of Noah led Dixon to reflect on his own life and faith walk.

“I want to be known as someone who, when God asks me to do something that makes zero sense in the natural, that my response is yes,” Dixon said.
