Even though James Gunn just wrapped his SUPERMAN press tour, the writer-director has already started working on the next project featuring the Man of Steel.
In a Threads post, Gunn revealed he isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
“Now that Superman is out and the press tour is finished, do you have any time to relax?” a fan asked.
Gunn responded, “Peacemaker press!! And sequel writing!!!”
Another user chimed in and wrote, “I’m a little confused right now. Is this the same movie you’ve talked about in the past, the one where you said Superman had a major role but wasn’t exactly a sequel? Or is this a different movie, and this one is actually ‘SUPERMAN 2’?”
Gunn replied, “Yes, yes, sorry. This is the same movie. SUPERMAN has a major role. It’s not ‘SUPERMAN 2.'”
SUPERMAN debuted in theaters last month and, so far, has earned an impressive global box office haul of $551.2 million, landing it among the top 50 superhero movies of all time.

The movie has a “Strong moral pro-life worldview with a light redemptive tone promotes doing the right thing,” according to Movieguide®. Part of the review reads:
Writer/Director James Gunn packs SUPERMAN with lots of exciting physical and emotional jeopardy. The movie also has some funny moments. Also, some heartfelt content is morally uplifting. However, the movie changes Superman’s origin story in a significant way that destroys the original story’s biblical allusions to Moses and Jesus. Also, it creates a politically correct pro-immigration theme. Ironically, the movie contradicts this by showing that it’s Superman’s American, non-immigrant parents who make Superman a good guy. SUPERMAN has scary action violence, multiple obscenities and two gratuitous strong profanities.
Gunn previously spoked with Entertainment Weekly about a possible SUPERMAN sequel.
“What I’m working on is in some way…I mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-up SUPERMAN sequel? I would not say necessarily,” he said.
When asked if he could provide any more information on the project, Gunn said, “Well, I always leave saying I’m going to direct something till I’m actually done with the screenplay, and then I say, ‘Yeah, I want to do this.’ But it’s probably what I will direct. Yeah, probably, to be totally realistic. Yes, probably.”
While it looks like a second movie about SUPERMAN is in the works, fans will have to wait to see what Gunn has planned.
