Fox News host Jesse Watters says his “life has changed” in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s death.

“It has made me seek a deeper connection with God,” he said during a recent appearance on the news network.

Watters explained that, previously, he only attended church on Christmas and Easter but now feels called to read Scripture and dive more deeply into his faith.

“My life has changed since this happened,” he continued. “The country has changed since this happened, and you can’t not feel that…and it’s just something you had to nourish like a flame and protect and keep, because that spirit of Charlie Kirk is still alive in all of us and still alive in the country.”

Watters recently interviewed Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk. It was her first since Kirk was assassinated on Sept. 10 in Utah.

Erika shared that she does not live in fear for her safety, explaining, “It’s a fearlessness that’s rooted in the understanding that I will have my day and my time, whenever that is, when the Lord knows that I have completed my mission, and I’m not afraid.”

“Charlie wasn’t afraid, either. We never lived in fear,” she added. “If we did, we wouldn’t get anything done.”

Erika has spoken frequently about how her faith has carried her through his time. In a speech she gave at a memorial service for her husband, she said, “On the cross, our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do.’ That man, that young man [who killed Charlie], I forgive him.”

“I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and is what Charlie would do,” Erika continued. “The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know, from the Gospel, is love and always love.”

Many praised Erika for the message of forgiveness and unity in her speech. Former communications director for the Democratic National Committee Xochitl Hinojosa said, “She came to the moment — she understood that people need to be brought together.”

“So much that she says…that she forgave the shooter. She also said, ‘The answer to hate is not hate,’” Hinojosa continued. “It came from the widow of Charlie Kirk, which I think is, I mean, I don’t know how she did it. First of all, giving that speech, but also rising to the moment when our country needs leadership, when our country needs to hear those messages of coming together. It was the widow who did it.”

Kirk’s death continues to change the lives of people around the country, from drawing them closer to their faith to encouraging them to embrace forgiveness.
