JESUS REVOLUTION Director Says Hollywood Is ‘Waking Up’ to Audience’s Desire for Christian Content

By Movieguide® Staff

Director Brent McCorkle, who is co-directing the upcoming faith movie JESUS REVOLUTION, recently shared how Hollywood is catching on to what Christian audiences want to see on screen.

JESUS REVOLUTION stars THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie, Kelsey Grammer, Joel Courtney, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley.

“Most of the people in the flyover states believe in God, and they have faith in Jesus,” McCorkle told Christian Headlines in a recent interview. “There’s a lot of us. It’s an underserved market.”

However, as more faith-based movies excel at the box office, 2020’s I STILL BELIEVE and 2021’s AMERICAN UNDERDOG, Hollywood knows that there is a major market for faith-filled movies.

“… I think Hollywood is slowly waking up to that there’s kind of this sleeping giant out there, as far as this content could play for a lot of people,” McCorkle added. “And I really think we’re also coming into a place where people are going to be more receptive to faith-genre films that are well done.”

McCorkle will direct JESUS REVOLUTION alongside Jon Erwin who he previously worked on for the four other Erwin Brothers’ movies, like WOODLAWN and I CAN ONLY IMAGINE.

Movieguide®’s thorough review analysis proves that the more movies incorporate faith-filled elements and biblical principles, the better these movies do in the box office. Every year, we present the Report to the Entertainment Industry that shows studios how including immoral and excessive elements affect their bottom line. Hollywood can and should appeal to Christian audiences.

Last year, THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins made the decision to release the first two episodes of Season 3 in theaters.

Moreover, Hollywood veterans Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson worked together on their faith-filled movie, FATHER STU: REBORN.

“I think you’re gonna see some really, really strong talented people that actually came up in Hollywood making more faith films, so they’re going to be excellent quality,” McCorkle told Christian Headlines.

“That’s going to be incredible,” he continued. “I think we’re in a time where we’re gonna see Christian sci-fi and Christian fantasy, Christian space movies,” he said. “… The questions [the films raise] are universal, and they’re fundamental. … I think we’re at a time where we’re going to continue to see it get wider and bigger as a genre, and the stories get better, and the technicality of them continue to improve as more talent comes on board to the genre.”

A portion of Movieguide®’s review of FATHER STU: REBORN reads:

FATHER STU: REBORN stars Mark Wahlberg as a rough man with a hard life. Stu has been so beaten up in the boxing ring that his doctor tells him he must stop boxing or die. So, he moves to Hollywood and gets a job as a butcher while pursuing acting. At his grocery store, Stu meets Carmen, a beautiful woman. Carmen tells Stu she will only see him if he comes to church and helps her teach Sunday School. One night, after drinking too much, Stu gets on a motorcycle and is hit by a car. Will Stu change his ways and follow God?

FATHER STU: REBORN has a powerful Christian worldview about everyone being able to change and be transformed by Jesus Christ. FATHER STU: REBORN is also a very entertaining, well-made and well-acted movie that’s been modified from the original R-rated version, FATHER STU. This version has less foul language, though it still has some light sexual commentary and some cursing. FATHER STU: REBORN has some witty humor but also several touching moments that will melt your heart.
