Jim Caviezel will star in ARCHANGEL with Olivia Thirlby, Shea Whigham and Garret Dillahunt, coming out November 2026.
The script is written by Chris Papasadero and Randall Wallace. David Zelon and Peter Guber will produce and executive produce, respectively. Will Eubank will direct, The Hollywood Reporter said Oct. 14.
ARCHANGEL is rumored to be about a former Green Beret, Fitz, who designs weapons for a secret military agency in rural Wyoming. When corporate raiders try to seize locals’ properties and water rights, Fitz puts his weapons to use.
Caviezel is known for his role as Jesus in THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, which was the most successful R-rated film ever until DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE came out. He recently shined in SOUND OF FREEDOM and CBS’s PERSON OF INTEREST.
Eubank directed LAND OF BAD, UNDERWATER and LOVE.
According to MovieWeb, ARCHANGEL began filming in August.
Wallace is known for writing/co-writing BRAVEHEART, THE MAN AND THE IRON MASK, PEARL HARBOR, WE WERE SOLDIERS and HEAVEN IS FOR REAL.
He shared why he includes redemptive themes in his scripts in an interview with That Shelf.
“I had made a commitment to write not simply what I thought the market wanted to buy, but to write what I wanted to see. I come from a whole Christian tradition, and there is a lot of talk about life after death,” he explained. “For me, I wanted to find life after birth, about what makes life worth living.”
“I believe you don’t find that until you find what you would die for. What is more important than your life? That is certainly what I discovered in BRAVEHEART,” he shared.
He used an illustration from BRAVEHEART, when William Wallace is in prison and is offered the chance to confess to treason and submit to the king.
“He says if he does that, then everything in him is dead already. I never imagined the words ‘every man dies, not every man really lives,’ but that’s where that line came from,” he said. “I love most of what Jordan Peterson says, and it’s striking to me that he talks about these same sorts of issues now. He claims that only through sacrifice and finding a goal that’s greater than yourself do you find meaning in life.”
He tries to “follow the story” instead of writing from an outline.
“To create a new experience, you have to feel you’re there with something alive. The way I do that is to plunge into the story. I’m not trying to follow a given set of beliefs or the way I understand life,” he shared.
Hopefully, Wallace will bring some meaningful and redemptive themes into ARCHANGEL, too.
