Actor John Rhys-Davies recently shared the “power and connection” of his latest project, podcast “The Christ,” ahead of Easter.

“To cover in a few episodes the entire life of Christ is certainly a challenge,” he said in an interview with Movieguide®. “And don’t forget, this story has been told for 2,000 years by different people.”

Rhys-Davies, who serves as the series’ narrator, spoke about how he approached working on “The Christ,” saying, “[You] let the words, which have stood the test of time…speak.”

“They will already have, in many people’s minds, a resonance and power and connection and meaning,” he added.

“The Christ,” released by Faith Podcast Network, is a four-part audio series that shares Jesus’ life story.

“Faith Podcast Network believes that there is something powerful about hearing the story of Jesus during Holy Week, when hearts are already turned toward reflection,” Karisa Rogers, manager of the Faith Podcast Network, said in a statement. “We believe ‘The Christ’ will help people reconnect with the depth, emotion, and truth of the gospel in a new way through this audio experience.”

In addition to Rhys-Davies, “The Christ”’s cast includes Tom Pelphrey as Jesus, David Oyelowo as Pontius Pilate, Paul Walter Hauser as John the Baptist, Courtney Hope as Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Patricia Heaton as host.

Speaking to The Christian Post about playing Jesus, Pelphrey shared, “I was simultaneously so excited and deeply intimidated. Truly, in a way that I don’t really get. So yeah, it was a new experience for me.”

The actor said his experience working on “The Christ” gave him the opportunity to do a deep-dive into scripture and Jesus’ teachings.

“It’s one of the cornerstones of our entire faith,” he explained. “I just wanted it to go as much from my heart to someone else’s heart as it possibly could….I’ve always loved that part of it, to read His words, to read His teachings. To go back into the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount. I think they are the most beautiful words ever written.”

Pelphrey also shared what he hopes listeners take away from “The Christ” — “I think the podcast does a beautiful job of reminding us of His mercy. Just to be reminded of mercy…That’s literally the only goal here. That’s what we want.”

The first two episodes of THE CHRIST are currently available to stream, with the following episodes dropping on April 1 and 2.
