Jonathan Roumie shared a video of encouragement as millions gathered for the Jubilee of Youth at the Vatican to engage in a week of worship.

“Dear friends, while I couldn’t be in Rome last week for the Jubilee of Youth (@iubilaeum25), due to continued filming of season 6 of @thechosentvseries, I was nevertheless honored to provide this brief video message for the more than one million young souls gathered there in Tor Vergata,” Roumie wrote along with the video he filmed for the festival.

“My brothers and sisters in Christ, I’m Jonathan Roumie, and many of you know me as the actor who portrays Jesus on THE CHOSEN. I have to begin by saying how much I wish I could be there with you in person to celebrate this incredible moment there together in Rome. But, as God would design it, I am currently filming Season 6 of THE CHOSEN and, as you can imagine, Jesus has a pretty full schedule these days,” Roumie said

“But just because I can’t be there physically doesn’t mean my heart isn’t with you, because it absolutely is. This Jubilee of Youth is something truly extraordinary. Over one million of you have gathered full of energy, full of hope, full of faith, from every nation, language, and background,” he continued. “You’re not here for fame or spectacle. You’re here for Jesus. You’re here for joy. You’re here for hope.

“May the fervor of this next generation spread far and wide, igniting both the generations that came before and those yet to come, eradicating all traces of ‘lukewarm’ spirituality in the process,” he added in the caption. “And may this joyful display embolden the Church’s collective mission, which God has entrusted to us all, to truly embody Christ’s words in the Gospel of Luke: ‘I have come to set the world on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing.'”

A Jubilee Year is a special year in the church calendar that is specifically set aside as a time for Christians to re-establish a strong relationship with the Lord and live out His call for His people. It typically takes place every 25 years with some extraordinary years breaking this mold.

“To celebrate the 2,025th anniversary of the Incarnation of the Lord, youth and young adults were invited to Rome for the international celebration of the Jubilee of Young People from Monday to Sunday, July 28 to August 3, 2025,” the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops explained. “During that week, youth and young adults from around the world came to the Eternal City for a pilgrimage experience of a lifetime.”

While Roumie was unable to attend the event due to his filming schedule, he, and many other members of THE CHOSEN, were got to meet Pope Leo XIV at the end of June.

“Thank you, Pope Leo for taking the time to meet and share with us, and for your kindness, charity and serene countenance,” Roumie wrote on a lengthy social media post after the interaction. “The Peace and Spirit of the Lord is clearly upon you and we were all blessed to receive His Peace through you.”

It is clear how much of an impact THE CHOSEN has had on the world’s faith. As Roumie and the rest of the cast and crew continue to work on the final seasons of the show, it is amazing to see the reach and impact the series continues to have.
