Kevin Sorbo recently told Movieguide® all about his relationship with director Dallas Jenkins and why he loves their movie, WHAT IF…
“I read the script. He [Jenkins] gave it to me, I read it an airplane, and I was just like, I gotta be in this movie,” Sorbo said. “I called him up and I said, ‘Who’s playing Pastor Ben?'”
The movie is like a modern-day IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE where a single successful businessman suddenly finds he’s married to his college sweetheart and is employed as a pastor — like he planned in the past. Now, he’s got to decide which life he wants.
“I said, I don’t care. Pay me whatever. I said, I gotta do this movie,” the Grace Prize® and Teddy Bear® Award winner recently told Movieguide®.
“Everybody has a ‘What If?’ and they probably have more than one through the course of their lifetime. You know, what if I had married that person? What if I went to that college instead of this one?”
Sorbo loves the movie and out of the near-100 that he’s starred in, he says this is in his top three.
“It’s better than GOD’S NOT DEAD. It’s the same writers Chuck and Cary, awesome writers. They’re not offended by me saying that ’cause they believe it’s better as well,” he said.
“We need pastors, people, religious leaders that tell their congregation, their followers to support these movies, otherwise they die in the vine…We have a spiritual battle in this country, and we need to fight back to the evil, horrible movies Hollywood keeps doing,” he explained.
When Sorbo filmed the movie with Jenkins, it motivated him to do more faith-based movies.

“It was just the entirety of the script even before he was shot. And Dallas put together a great crew…It was wonderful to sit there and work with them and, and to work with such an amazing, amazing script,” he said.
“It’s just a wonderful movie, and I hope every religious leader, every leader tells people to support this movie. ’cause it’s only gonna be out there August 5th and August 7th,” Sorbo explained.
Sorbo won a Movieguide® Grace Prize® for his performance in WHAT IF…

“Fifteen years ago I made a movie that my kids tell me is the best movie I’ve made and it’s called WHAT IF…,” Jenkins said in a trailer for the re-release.
For the movie’s 15th anniversary, it features a special conversation between Jenkins, John Ratzenberger, Sorbo and Kristy Swanson. It will be available in theaters Aug. 5 and 7.
