Lauren Daigle’s ‘You Say’ Breaks Billboard Record With 100 Weeks At No. 1

Lauren Daigle made history this month as her hit song “You Say” became the first song to spend 100 weeks on the Billboard hot song charts.

Initially released in 2018, “You Say” stayed at the No. 1 spot on the Hot Christian Songs chart for over two years after its debut.

“When I was a little girl, I would dream of moments like this. Upon hearing the news, I called my family. We laughed. We cried. We made jokes. We celebrated. I am so honored and want to thank all the people involved in achieving this accomplishment,” Daigle wrote on Instagram after receiving the honor.

Daigle, the songwriter and singer of the song, also took the opportunity to thank the people she credits with making the song possible.

“My sincere gratitude goes out to them,” Daigle added. “To be a part of a song that has not only made history but has lived inside the homes of families raising babies, widows needing comfort, teenagers needing a friend, those who have lost and those who have gained, that is a gift I’ll never fully put into words. Simply amazed that ‘You Say’ has spent 100 weeks on @billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart! Thank you ALL!!”

One year ago, “You Say” reached a milestone by beating out Hillsong’s “Oceans (Where Feet May Fall)” for the Christian song record after 61 weeks at No. 1. Although Hillsong’s record-holding song benefited from its inclusion in worship sets, the popularity of Daigle’s “You Say” appeals to a crossover market.

Daigle is optimistic in her mission: to propel contemporary Christian music forward to reach the masses.

Daigle told the Associated Press, “We have this saying in my team that’s called ‘Extend the tent pegs.’ And, it’s not to leave behind anybody that has listened to this music so far and that has been along this journey with me because I am 100 percent grateful. So, I don’t want to leave anybody behind….”

Her outlook speaks to sharing the message of Jesus with nonbelievers while also ministering to the hearts of Christians continuing to pursue maturity in their spiritual walk. Daigle’s most popular song on the album, “You Say,” has 25 million views on YouTube and counting. Along with the acclaim on Billboard, God is definitely providing an avenue for the singer to share His truth.

“You Say” also broke records in secular charts and became the first top Christian song to also be ranked No. 1 in the Adult Contemporary chart. It also reached No. 5 on Adult Pop Songs.

The song is off of her second album, Look Up Child, which went platinum. Daigle also earned Grammy awards in the contemporary Christian music categories for “You Say.”

Daigle’s most recent release, “Rescue,” holds the No. 2 spot on Christian song charts, following the popularity of the record-breaking song, “You Say.”
