Lee Greenwood to Launch New Initiative to Aid and Honor Veterans

Nationally known for his song “God Bless the USA,” Lee Greenwood joined Fox News Digital to share his plan to launch a new initiative to help and honor veterans.

“I continue to do the job that I believe I’m cut out to do by God, which is to take care of our country and our families and our veterans,” he told Fox News Digital.

Part of the initiative is a movie called ALL-STAR SALUTE TO LEE GREENWOOD that will hit theaters on Sunday November 12.

The movie will include musical performances by Dustin Lynch, Lee Brice, Michael Ray, Michael W. Smith and The Isaacs, The Oak Ridge Boys, Tracy Lawrence, Big & Rich, Jamey Johnson, Gavin DeGraw, Scott Stapp of Creed, Crystal Gayle, Sam Moore and T. Graham Brown, Larry Gatlin and Debby Boone, Mark Wills, Home Free, The Frontmen, Ty Herndon and Janie Fricke — and many more.

“I couldn’t believe so many great artists came to honor my music,” he said to Fox News Digital.

Concerts 4 A Cause decided to team up with Greenwood “to allow the public to sponsor a veteran and the veteran’s guest or caregiver to enjoy the event,” Fox News reported.

Greenwood has a goal to send 50,000 veterans across the nation a ticket to watch the film for free.

William Lee Golden of The Oak Ridge Boys told Fox News Digital, “November 12th is going to be a very special day this year. Not only are we going to be celebrating veterans who served this great nation, but we will be bringing them to see an amazing concert event.”

Golden added, “So many of my fellow artist friends and I are thrilled to perform and bring smiles, laughter and an overall good time to those who some days never even get to leave a nursing home.”

“Through Adopt a Vet, we all can help support those veterans and give them a night out on the town. Oh, and to honor Lee Greenwood for his 40-year career and his long-serving patriotism is just the icing on the cake,” Golden concluded.

Tickets for the one-night only event will go on sale August 4 and the event will only be available on Veterans Day.

Movieguide® previously reported on Greenwood’s hit song:

“I left home at 17-years-old and went to Las Vegas not really seeing the rest of the country and world through normal eyes because Nevada was kind of a bubble, but I lived through the Vietnam era.

“I think that’s when I began to formulate my opinion about the country, the sacrifice everybody has made for it, and how we will survive as a nation,” he added.

Greenwood noted that seeing his father join the Navy gave him a desire to honor the American troops who served to maintain America’s freedoms.

“We were touring 300 days a year and then I started wondering why I was doing this. Am I having an effect on a community of people, on a culture? I began to reflect on my childhood and how important it was for me to see men in uniform, ride by in a parade. We stood up a little straighter when the flag went by and military went by. It just came to me one day and it was going to be a tribute to my country,” Greenwood said.
