Lee Strobel Wants To ‘Help People Meet Jesus’ With New Book

By Movieguide® Contributor

Author and preacher Lee Strobel is releasing a new book, “Is God Real?: Exploring the Ultimate Question of Life.”

“I love doing this project because I think it reflects a real curiosity in our culture about who God is,” Strobel told Faithwire. “I think it’s incumbent on Christians to…always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks us to give the reason for the hope that we have, and to do it gently and respectfully.”

He shared that the idea for his new book came from his publisher.

“They said, ‘We found that 200 times a second, around the clock, someone on planet Earth is typing into a computer search engine, basically the question: ‘Is God real?” And they said, ‘Why don’t you do a book addressing that?’” Strobel said.

The writer loved the idea and began researching the science, history and philosophy that “points toward the truth of Christianity.”

“When I have a topic I want to research, I look at several things,” Strobel told Christian Headlines. “First, I look at the personal life of my research sources. I want people who are authentic. Secondly, I want scholars. I want experts. Most of the people I interviewed have at least one PhD. I want people who have thought deeply about these issues. I’ll generally read ten books or major articles they’ve published to understand where they’re coming from and who they are. I also want people who can articulate why they believe what they believe, can point to evidence and not just opinions, and back up their assertions with scholarly data.”

In an Instagram post about “Is God Real?” he elaborated: “My motive has been to discover truth, regardless of what the implications might be…Regardless, I became obsessed with getting to the bottom of whether or not there’s a God and then living with the consequences, one way or the other. If he was real, I wanted to know him personally. And if he wasn’t, then I wasn’t interested in playing any religious games.”

“I just want to spend the rest of my life helping people meet Jesus and have him transform their lives,” Strobel concluded. “And open the doors of heaven for them.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Strobel’s popularity:

Strobel, a former atheist who investigated the reality of Jesus during his time at The Chicago Tribune, is known for his factual approach to the gospel.

“We live in an increasingly skeptical and even hostile culture toward the Christian message, and apologetics, which is literally giving evidence for the faith, is increasingly important as a result,” Strobel told The Christian Post. “Apologetics gets people past their spiritual ‘sticking points.’ A lot of people in culture have objections, questions and doubts about God, and when we can give them a reason for these things, it can make great progress for God.”

Strobel rose in popularity in evangelical circles with his book “The Case for Christ.”

The book was first adapted into a DVD and later a feature movie by the same name.
