Many Young Americans Confirm Bible ‘Transformed My Life’
By Movieguide® Contributor
In a world marred by hatred and disunity, many young Americans are turning to the Bible to seek peace.
According to Premiere Christian News, “A new report has revealed a growing number of young people in the US see the Bible as transformative to their lives. Research from the American Bible Society (ABC) reveals more young adults are engaging with scripture and finding it has a transformational influence on them.”
The study included 2,506 young Americans. Of those 2,506, 58% of those said that the “message of the Bible has transformed my life.”
“Our youngest adults show signs of interest in the Bible, curiosity about it, and transformative interaction with it. If this trend continues, we have good reason for hope,” John Farquhar Plake, ABC’s Chief Program Officer, stated.
ABC also looked at the “Moveable Middle,” which is “a group of 65 million American adults who are open to the message of the Bible, curious to know more about what it says, and interested in learning more about Jesus Christ.”
The research found that there are five characteristics of the Moveable Middle. These include:
- They are interested in the Bible on their own terms.
- They struggle with the language and culture of the Bible.
- They prefer modern-language translations of the Bible.
- They need a guide and welcome the church to help them.
- They want to emulate a heritage of faith.
ABC confirmed that “people are still interacting with Scripture and discovering its hope, comfort, and power. More Christians are thriving in their spiritual growth. More young adults report being transformed by the Bible’s message. We find joys as well as challenges in the data.”
It’s not surprising that young people are turning to God for comfort. Even in the entertainment industry, celebrities are looking to God to make sense of the world.
Great American Family actress Danica McKellar found a relationship with God after Candace Cameron Bure invited her to church, and she began reading the Bible.
“I love how many of the stories in the Bible are so ingrained in our culture and to see where it all comes from is just really exciting,” McKellar said.
Actor and comedian Russell Brand recently decided to get baptized after exploring the Bible and Christianity. Movieguide® reported:
Actor and comedian Russell Brand has decided to put his faith and trust in the Lord and was baptized over the weekend.
“Yesterday, I got baptized, and it was an incredible, profound experience,” he said in an X video posted Monday…
Brand’s baptism comes after months of exploring the Christian faith…
The Christian Post reported that he was reading the Bible and C.S. Lewis’ “The Problem of Pain” in December.
He opened up about why he wears a cross necklace in an X post in January.
“The reason I wear a cross is because Christianity and, in particular, the figure of Christ are, it seems to me, inevitably becoming more important as I become more familiar with suffering, purpose, self, and not-self,” Brand said. “I’m reading the Bible a lot more, as I’ve told you before, [and] I’m reading Rick Warren’s ‘Purpose Driven Life.’”
