Many of us grew up going to Chuck E. Cheese for birthday parties and special events, but the party mouse makes his return in an unexpected way. Chuck E. Cheese is now the star of a new holiday movie.

“As soon as that title came across my desk, I was immediately very, very intrigued by what a Christmas special in the universe of Chuck E. Cheese might look like,” Nathan Kress, who plays the iconic mouse in A CHUCK E. CHEESE CHRISTMAS, told Movieguide®. “Obviously I have my preconceived notions and my own memories in my childhood of Chuck E. Cheese, but he exists within his own meta universe where it’s all just, it’s about, you know, classic parties, birthdays, just getting kids together, hanging out, dance parties, music, all this stuff we’ve never hit on what he would do with Christmas.”

He added, “I feel like, in terms of just society in general, that’s a big whiff not to unleash Chuck E. Cheese on Christmas.”

Chuck E. Cheese first began in 1977 as a place uniting “pizza, games and entertainment all under one roof.” The company’s website reads, “Founded, by Nolan Bushnell, the co-founder of Atari, first known as Chuck E. Cheese Pizza Time Theatre, was the first interactive entertainment restaurant for families.”

Kress continued, “The fact that we’re finally doing this and we’re opening up this entire universe that previously did not exist, it was such a treat and an honor just to be involved in at all, because it’s two of the best things, especially from my childhood.”

Although nostalgia is great, the series takes on an even deeper meaning with heartfelt lessons.

“There’s so much heart in this Christmas special,” the actor revealed. “It tugs at the old strings there. There are so many moments where I got to actually, like, do some acting, like I had to pick apart the lines and find moments and make specific choices to try to up the emotional impact of this dialog.”

He also appreciated the creatives’ mission. Kress explained, “The writers and directors of this thing, who are intimately familiar with exactly what they wanted to look like, and they knew it was going to have heart from the beginning, they had their own specific ideas of what they wanted to sound like, so we’re collaborating with each other.”

He added, “It was a really, really great, cohesive and cooperative experience.”

A CHUCK E. CHEESE CHRISTMAS made its streaming debut on Nov. 27.

“The scale of this release shows what’s possible when we bring together great partners and great content,” said Melissa McLeanas, VP of Global Media, Licensing & Entertainment at Chuck E. Cheese. “This special is supported across platforms — streaming, music, products, and experiences — creating a cohesive global moment that strengthens the future of our character franchise.”

It’s available to stream now on Prime Video and YouTube.
