The stars of NCIS: ORIGINS are weighing in on which fan-favorite characters they want to see make an appearance on the show — and that jaw-dropping Season 1 finale.
“Why not a young DiNozzo?” Mariel Molino, who plays Lala, told TV Insider. Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) is currently starring in his own NCIS spin-off, NCIS: TONY & ZIVA.
Austin Stowell, who plays a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, agreed, saying they “need a new funny guy. We need some smiles down in the office.”
“A young Ziva [played by Cote De Pablo] would be cool, too,” Molino added.
The pair also weighed in on the action-packed Season 1 finale of NCIS: ORIGINS — warning: spoilers ahead!
When asked if the serious car crash Lala was in in the last few minutes of the finale episode was fatal, Molino said, “We have no idea.”

“There’s obviously a world where [Lala dying] makes sense in that it would explain so much of why Gibbs is the way he is and why he will not talk about this with anyone,” Stowell shared. “Selfishly, as an actor, I hope and pray that [Mariel] stays right where she is because she is so talented and, as talented as she is, she’s also a wonderful human being.”
He added, “We are incredibly blessed to have the family that we do here on set — all of these people here on the show have become so close to me. We have become friends, and I don’t want to lose anybody [even though] and I know that it makes great drama. But that’s how I feel.”
Molino and Stowell discussed the season finale in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, too, with Molino telling fans, “All I can say is that you have to tune in to Season 2 to see what happens.”
Fatal or not, Stowell shared that Lala’s accident would have “gigantic ramifications” on Gibbs, explaining that the fact that she was driving to see him means “the guilt will only build.”
Co-showrunner David J. North also weighed in on what might happen in Season 2.
“We’re just so fortunate with this cast,” North told Deadline. “One by one, they’re so phenomenal, and we can’t wait to get back to work with them. But as far as where we’re taking the story, it’s open. It’s an open runway.”
NCIS: ORIGINS fans will just have to wait and see what Season 2 of the show will bring!
