Rock singer Papa Roach, whose real name is Jacoby Shaddix, ditched his life of darkness and addiction to follow God.
“The two things I never wanted to be in my life was sober and a Christian,” he revealed on Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast. “I am now a follower and a sober guy.”
Shaddix admitted he hit rock bottom and just couldn’t live like that any more.
“When I finally put the bottle down…it was like that foxhole prayer, where I’m just like, ‘God, do you hear me? Can you hear me? I need a miraculous change. I need something beyond what I can do,’ because I kept trying to control the change in my life,” he said. “The walls fell.”
Watching a close friend’s faith gave him hope that Christianity could truly change his life.
“I had a fella that I was real close with that walked my faith journey out with me. I was very skeptical,” Shaddix recalled. “And then I saw this faith walk alive in front of me — somebody talking the talk and walking the walk — and I saw the transformation, it became alive to me.”

“I was less fearful of, ‘All right, I’ll try to believe,’” he said. “And then it became like, ‘I’m a full-blown believer.’”
“The more that I purge these things and turn it over and just walk in the light, I feel like it’s the way. It’s the path,” he emphasized. “Because I’ve tried the other way…And it wasn’t it.”
His faith has changed his music, too. He recently posted a music video to Instagram that featured him singing his single “Wake Up Calling” in a church pew.
“This is what I wake up for,” he wrote in the caption.
He sings:
…you’re my medicine
I need you tonight to bring me back to life
You’re my wake-up calling
Running out of time, staring at the signs
Will you break my fall? AndYou take the burn, you take the blame
I’ll be the reason we go up in flames
I need you tonight
You’re my wake-up calling
People in the comment section celebrated the artist’s newfound faith.
“Beautiful and inspirational seeing the same band who made ‘Last Resort,’ giving praise to the creator of the universe. God is good and heals all wounds,” one person said. Another added, “Papa Roach going Christian??? I am SO her for this!!!!! Praise God!”
Other rockers have given their lives to the Lord, including Korn frontman Brian “Head” Welch.
“Christ…is a real heart to heart relationship,” he said last year, per Church Leaders. “It’s your heart connected spiritually in union with Christ’s heart. He leads you to himself by kindness, while acknowledging your flaws; [he] will definitely ask, by leading you spiritually, to lay down some things.”
No matter how deep the darkness in your life, God can rescue you if you allow Him to.
