THE PENDRAGON CYCLE’s Rose Reid says the “intense, deep and hopeful” show will put plenty of twists on the familiar story of King Arthur.
“Obviously, you know, it’s such a well-known legend that when you take on a story like that, you hope to be able to do something a little different with it,” the actress told Movieguide®. “The Lady of the Lake isn’t what you expect, the sword and stone might not be what you expect…there’s just elements of it that I think you get to have a fun little twist on.”
THE PENDRAGON CYCLE: RISE OF THE MERLIN is based on a popular book series of the same name and produced by The Daily Wire.
“I think the best way to describe this show is that it’s a generational look at King Arthur,” Reid explained. “It backs the story up even further than a lot of other versions of the story…it is a generational story of uniting a scattered and broken Britain, and paving the path for the ultimate kingdom of summer.”
She called THE PENDRAGON CYCLE “intense, deep and hopeful,” telling potential viewers, “The show was designed to have so much more meaning to it than at first glance.”
Reid plays Charis, a princess of the kingdom of Atlantis. In an interview with The Daily Wire, she shared that viewers “meet Charis at a time that we don’t typically meet a lot of heroines in fantasy.”
“We meet her after she’s already saved her people, and she’s essentially reconciling what happened and who she was then with who she was now,” she explained, adding, “There are definitely several moments where you want the audience to ask the question, was that the right call?”
Reid added, “I’ve always been a huge fantasy fan, so this was a dream project for so many reasons.”
Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing spoke to Deadline about making THE PENDRAGON CYCLE, saying, “We were trying to build our own streamer, so it wasn’t part of our model to solicit distribution. THE PENDRAGON CYCLE was the first time we considered it.”
“It was a completely different scale to things we had done before so we wanted maximum eyeballs on it,” he continued. “We went out with it and we got a lot of really great feedback from a lot of places that probably don’t care much for our politics…having read a lot of the feedback from various streamers, there were a lot of compliments for what we accomplished.”
