Daily Wire Announces SNOW WHITE Adaptation: ‘Timeless Values’
By Movieguide® Contributor
The Daily Wire, a conservative media group, has announced that they will release an adaptation of SNOW WHITE called SNOW WHITE AND THE EVIL QUEEN.
The movie will star Daily Wire personality Brett Cooper, who hosts the YouTube show “The Comments Section.”
Cooper shared her excitement about the film.
“I was raised on the original Grimms’ Fairy Tales, so I’m thrilled that we’re bringing this iconic story to life for the next generation,” said Cooper. “Snow White is such a beautiful character, and I’m honored to be playing her. Like all the best fairy tales, this is a story with timeless values, like love, friendship, and kindness, and I can’t wait to share them.”
“I LOVE this story,” she added in an Instagram post.
“It’s a story about a princess and a prince, about beauty and vanity, about love and its power to raise us from death to life,” said Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing. “It’s our own adaptation of an ancient fairy tale.”
The movie follows the announcement of Disney’s new SNOW WHITE movie, starring Rachel Zegler. The actress shared that her adaptation veers far off from the original story.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zegler said that the original story is “extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world.”
She added that Disney’s new adaptation is “really not about the love story at all” but rather focuses on Snow White’s “inner journey that she goes on to find her true self.”
Alternatively, the Daily Wire plans to preserve the original vision and story. Boreing shared his thoughts on Disney’s turn from family-focused entertainment.
“It’s taken 100 years to build Disney,” Boreing said. “We know we aren’t what Disney is today, but we hope in time we might become what they were, once upon a time: a little studio with big ideas and the courage to chase them…While Disney still uses Walt’s name, they have all but abandoned his legacy.”
Both SNOW WHITE movies are set to release in 2024. The Hollywood Reporter shared that Disney “had no immediate comment on the Daily Wire project.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Disney’s adaptation:
After a controversy surrounding the upcoming SNOW WHITE movie, a poll found that people’s view of Disney follows the political divide, as most Republicans have a negative opinion of the company.
In August, Rachel Zegler, the actress playing Snow White in the upcoming live-action remake, shared her disdain for the original movie’s classic storyline.
“I just mean that it’s no longer 1937,” she said. “[Snow White’s] not going out to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true.”
Zegler also called the story “extremely dated” and called the prince “a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. Weird.”
