Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis cleared up some recent rumors that alleged the actor could no longer walk or talk.
“To Whom It May Concern: If you ever come across a story that begins with, ‘sources close to the family say…,’ do yourself a favor and stop reading,” she wrote in a recent Instagram story, per TV Insider. “And to any outlet that runs with those kinds of stories, do better. Giving a platform to anonymous speculation is not only careless, it’s harmful. Onward.”
Earlier this month, several outlets reported that Willis’ frontotemporal dementia diagnosis had progressed and that he could not walk or talk.
“He is said to have become largely non-verbal and is reportedly experiencing motor difficulties, though no specific details about his mobility have been confirmed by his family in recent months,” a report from The Express alleged.
However, Heming Willis and the actor’s children have all regularly posted photos showing Willis happily spending time with family.
This Father’s Day, Willis and ex-wife Demi Moore’s daughter Rumer posted a touching tribute to her dad.
“Today is hard, I feel a deep ache in my chest to talk to you and tell you everything I’m doing and what’s going on in my life. To hug you and ask you about life and your stories and struggles and successes,” she wrote. “I wish I asked you more questions while you could still tell me about it all. But I know you wouldn’t want me to be sad today so I’ll try to just be grateful reminding myself how lucky I am that you’re my dad and that you’re still with me and I can still hold you and hug you.”
Rumer continued, “I will be grateful for every moment I have with you. I love you so much dad happy Father’s Day.”
Heming Willis has also been open about the realities of becoming a caregiver, writing a book about the experience titled The Unexpected Journey, out in September.
“Born from grief, shaped by love, and guided by purpose, this is the book I needed back when Bruce was first diagnosed and I was frozen with fear and uncertainty,” she wrote in an Instagram post announcing the book. “This is the book I trust will help the next caregiver. It is filled with support, insight, and the hope needed to navigate this journey.”
Heming Willis’ recent post is important as she continues to raise awareness for caregivers and protect her husband from unwanted attention and rumors.
