NBA Star Knows Only Jesus Can ‘Truly Satisfy’ Amid Injury Recovery

 By Movieguide® Contributor

Detroit Pistons Jaden Ivey was in the middle of one of his best seasons in the NBA to date —until he broke his leg.

“The young veteran posted averages of 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists. He was making 46 percent of his shots from the field and knocking down 41 percent of his threes,” Sports Illustrated reported. But on New Year’s Day, he broke his fibula.

Two days after the injury, Ivey took to social media to provide his followers with a piece of encouragement.

He began the post with James 1:2-4: “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

“So encouraged by the amount of thoughts, messages, and prayers I’ve received,” Ivey wrote in the post. “I’m thankful for my wife and my whole family who have been with me throughout the start of this. Even in the midst of this, I trust the One who has put me in this spot, and I know my Father will get me through because he is faithful and a Great God!

“I hope my situation can inspire anybody going through any trial in life that Jesus loves you and he won’t just leave you where you have been stuck, but lean on your Father because he is right there through your trial. With God nothing is impossible.” Ivey concluded.

Ivey joined the Sports Spectrum Podcast last week to discuss what it means to be fully satisfied in the Lord.

“I want to be an MVP. I want to be an all-star championship. I went with championships, Hall of Fame, all of that,” the guard said on the podcast.

“You can have all of that. And you can’t sit here and tell me that that’s going to fulfill you. It won’t. And the only thing that could fulfill you is Christ,” he explained. “I learned that, you know, when I gave my life to Christ, is that, you know He’s the only person that can truly satisfy you in this world. And you know, He doesn’t give what the world gives, but He gives eternal peace. So, that’s really just amazing that, even in that press conference, like I said, identity in Christ is what matters because that’s truly what it is like.”
