EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND star Ray Romano will return to TV screens in HBO’s HOW TO SURVIVE WITHOUT ME.
The comedian will star as the patriarch of a family that just lost is mother, Parade reported.
“As his five complicated adult children begin to navigate life without their mother at the center, Leo is forced to find his own voice as a parent, moving out of wife’s shadow to become the family’s new, differently effective center,” the premise reads.
Greg Berlanti will write the series with Bash Doran. Joshua Jackdon will also star — as a chef intent on sharing his late mom’s recipes, Variety reported.

Variety said, “He presents as confident and a player, but he’s suffering in silence — keeping a secret that could destroy both his lifelong friendships and the culinary career he’s built in is mother’s honor.”
Berlant and Jackson worked together on DAWSON’S CREEK, a 90s series that Berlanti was a staff writer on.

It’s a project designed to return year after year, continually deepening the audience’s connection to these beloved characters and their unique story.”
Robbie Rogers, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman will executive produce for Berlanti Productions through the company’s Warner Bros. Television deal. Doran will also executive produce.
“Ray is a beloved icon who has an incredible gift for bringing both depth and levity to every character he portrays,” said Clancy Collins White, President, Creative Affairs, Warner Bros. Television. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to HOW TO SURVIVE WITHOUT ME as Leo, the patriarch woven into this deeply moving family story. We know his performance will bring nuance and heart to Greg and Bash’s vision, and form a powerful emotional connection with viewers.”
Max executives said it’s “especially exciting” that Jackson and Berlanti will reunite for the series. It’s a sign that it’ll likely be a good show.
This isn’t Romano’s only break since EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, by any means, but it’s been a while since he’s been the leading man. He’s been in MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE, NO GOOD DEED, GET SHORTY and MADE FOR LOVE. Romano also has a recurring role with Kate Hudson on Netflix’s RUNNING POINT, Deadline noted.
