REBA Costars Friendship Goes Way Deeper Than TV Show

By Movieguide® Contributor

Two former costars have reunited and will be joining forces again for a brand-new sitcom.

Country legend and actress Reba McEntire and actress Melissa Peterman met again on the red carpet at the 2024 Emmys. The actresses previously starred in the show REBA.

The duo is now working on a new show titled HAPPY’S PLACE for NBC, which will premiere in October.

“I think our chemistry is so good, we are so good at playing off each other. We are playing new characters in a new situation, but what we have together, that back and forth, it’s still there and it exists,” Peterman said of her McEntire. “It’s been so much fun.”

McEntire spoke fondly of her friend and colleague, saying, “It’s a blast to get to work together again. After the REBA show, I was on tour, and she’d come on tour with me, and we’d do a bit in the middle of the concert. She got a bigger applause coming out than I ever did.”

They also made it clear that their friendship goes much deeper than just REBA.

“We’ve gone on vacations together. Raised our kids together,” McEntire said. “Known each other a long time.”

HAPPY’S PLACE follows “Bobbie (Reba McEntire) [who] inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.”

McEntire, who is also an executive producer for the show, said, “It’s lots of fun. I love all genres of entertainment. But the sitcoms are so much fun, cause it’s a brand-new script every week. And you’re just having fun. It’s really hard memorizing dialogue you have to do, but it ain’t my first rodeo. I do love it. And it’s just playtime. We have a blast with it. It’s gonna be that heartfelt, fun, funny, laugh at our silliness. But also, [you’ll] be touched with the heart in our show.”

HAPPY’S PLACE premieres Oct. 18 on NBC at 8/7c.

Reba McEntire is sharing her excitement about her return to television with the new sitcom HAPPY’S PLACE.

“Out of all the things I get to do, this is my favorite. It’s camaraderie, fun, creative. You go to work and play,” the country star told TV Insider. “I always love the sitcom. You know your dressing room. You know your parking spot. Consistency is not something I’ve had the first 20, 30 years of my career. So, to get to do that, I just fell in love with it. We’ve been working on it a long time. This worked out perfectly.”

McEntire plays Bobbie, who “inherits a restaurant from her late father, then learns she must share ownership with a newly discovered half-sister, creating awkward tension between the two,” per IMDb.

“Bobbie’s pretty intense,” the country star told TV Insider. “She’s loyal, a very hard worker, and loves what she gets to do. She’s devoted to the tavern and to her dad’s memory and wants everything to stay as it is. She solely depends on [the tavern] because her husband has died. Her daughter is deployed, so she’s kind of on her own except for her tavern family.”
