Charlie is a wilderness expert. He and his wife, Charlotte, have brought their son, Scott, to live in a new house in another city for Charlotte’s new job. Scott isn’t happy about leaving behind his friends, but he ignores his friend Bridger’s texts and calls. Making matters worse, the moving van with all their furniture and Scott’s bike hasn’t shown up yet.

Their new house abuts a small, mysterious forest. In the backyard, Scott hears all sorts of strange noises emanating from the dense woodland. The family comes to find that there are stories about a hairy creature, a Bigfoot, lurking in the forest. Scott’s parents discount the stories, but Scoot meets three children, a girl named Haley, her older brother, Zach, and their friends Brent and Emily, who tell him that the family that last lived in the house 10 years ago, left when their son was found dead in the woods.

One day, Scott’s mother is stuck at work and can’t pick him up after school. So, Scott decides to take a short cut through the woods, where he finds a clump of hair along with the usual strange noises.

Haley’s older brother, Zach, relentlessly teases Scott and Haley. To stop the teasing, Scott decides to spend an evening camping in a tent in the forest. If he does, Zach must promise to stop teasing Haley. Haley warns Scott not to do such a foolish thing. She thinks Zach and Brent will pull a prank on him if he goes through with the bet.
