Reba McEntire is So Excited for New Sitcom — Here’s What She’s Said

Reba McEntire is sharing her excitement about her return to television with the new sitcom HAPPY’S PLACE.

“Out of all the things I get to do, this is my favorite. It’s camaraderie, fun, creative. You go to work and play,” the country star told TV Insider. “I always love the sitcom. You know your dressing room. You know your parking spot. Consistency is not something I’ve had the first 20, 30 years of my career. So, to get to do that, I just fell in love with it. We’ve been working on it a long time. This worked out perfectly.”

McEntire plays Bobbie, who “inherits a restaurant from her late father, then learns she must share ownership with a newly discovered half-sister, creating awkward tension between the two,” per IMDb.

“Bobbie’s pretty intense,” the country star told TV Insider. “She’s loyal, a very hard worker, and loves what she gets to do. She’s devoted to the tavern and to her dad’s memory and wants everything to stay as it is. She solely depends on [the tavern] because her husband has died. Her daughter is deployed, so she’s kind of on her own except for her tavern family.”

Finding out about her half-sister, Isabella, rocks Bobbie’s world.

“It’s a little bit of a shock for both of us. Happiness [for Isabella]. Shock [for Bobbie.]” McEntire explained. “The whole [series premiere] is [about] absorbing and adjusting. It’s huge news. Life-jarring.”

HAPPY’S PLACE also features one of McEntire’s former co-stars, Melissa Peterman. The pair previously worked together on REBA.

“We’d been looking for something [to do together] since REBA was canceled in 2006. So, long, long time,” McEntire shared. “Almost had something, didn’t work out. I’ve always been a firm believer that timing is everything and everything happens for a reason. Thank God, because this is such a good show. It’s got so much heart. I’m glad we’re reunited.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Peterman said the pair have “been friends ever since” starring on REBA together.

“We’ve done other things together. I got to go on tour with her and open the show and do standup, and we vacation together. We hang out, and we just were waiting for another project so we could actually go to work together again,” she said. “I think it’s evolved to even — you know, we had six years together, a 100-and-some episodes — we have such a shorthand.”

Movieguide® previously reported on HAPPY’S PLACE:

Country star Reba McEntire is revving up for her new sitcom, HAPPY’S PLACE.

“NBC has handed a series order to HAPPY’S PLACE, a multi-camera comedy starring McEntire and her former REBA co-star Melissa Peterman. It will air during the 2024-2025 TV season,” TV Insider reported.

She told PEOPLE that she will sing the theme song for the new show.

“We’ve started working on it, and we’ll have it soon finished,” McEntire said. “If they say it’s a go, I’ll finish it up and have it ready for when we go to series.”

The 69-year-old added that the show has “a great script.”

“My [character Bobbie’s] dad was Happy, that was his name, and we owned a tavern called Happy’s Place,” she told PEOPLE about the plot. “Well, Happy passed, and so he’s passed the tavern onto me, but there’s a little hiccup involved, so that’s the mystery right there. Everybody has to tune in and watch it, and I hope they love it.”
