Christian singer and worship leader Tasha Cobbs Leonard recently opened up about how God used a song to bring her out of a dark time in her life.
She came upon Will Reagan’s “Break Every Chain,” which she later covered, and it broke down the walls she had built around herself.
“When I first heard it, I was actually in a car traveling with my team,” she told Sadie Robertson Huff on her podcast. “I was just in this season, it was a very, very dark season for me, just struggling with depression and anxiety really, really, really bad. And I remember this song…came on and the first words, ‘There’s power in the name of Jesus to break every chain,’ and I felt like my spirit just began to receive these words and walls, you know, started to crumble that I have built up over the years.”
Her cover of the song was “chart-topping [and a] platinum-selling lead single,” and it’s now sung in churches around the world. Cobbs Leonard says she loves singing it over and over again.
“People ask me all the time now, ‘Hey do you ever get tired of singing “Break Every Chain”?’ The answer is absolutely not because every time we sing that song, there’s a different response. You know, somebody in the room receives a healing or a breakthrough or an encounter with Christ that they’ve been searching for many years,” she said.
Cobbs Leonard also explained how she encourages others pursuing leadership roles to be faithful in whatever role they are in right now.
“A lot of times people ask me, ‘Hey, what’s one word of advice you can give to an upcoming, you know, want to be a Christian star? I want to be,’ you know, and my advice is to be faithful where you are right now be committed to…I was just committed to singing worship songs that would bless the local church,” she added.
The singer first rose to prominence in 2013 with the release of her single “Grace,” which earned a Grammy and three Stellar Awards.
Following the release of “Break Every Chain,” Cobbs Leonard established “herself as one of her genre’s most celebrated voices. Billboard named Tasha the Top Gospel Artist of the Decade, while NPR declared her a ‘gospel sensation,’ and Forbes hailed her as ‘by far one of the most successful contemporary gospel artists of our time.'”
Cobbs Leonard recently released her first book, “Do It Anyway: Don’t Give Up.” Movieguide® previously reported:
