Tasha Layton: ‘We Underestimate The Power Of God’s Love’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian singer Tasha Layton recently shared her hopes for her new book and the lessons she learned during dark times.
“I didn’t shy away from the ugly parts, that’s for sure,” Layton said of her book, “Look What You’ve Done,” while appearing on the “Livin’ the Bream” podcast. “I’ve been on such a unique journey.”
“Look What You’ve Done: The Lies We Believe & the Truth That Sets Us Free” “delves into Tasha’s journey of finding freedom in Jesus through life’s twists and turns,” according to a synopsis of the book.
The synopsis continues, “As her inspirational stories reveal the ways God has guided her journey, Tasha also shares vulnerable reflections on the struggles she’s faced in her life of faith and music. Readers will identify with Tasha as she describes the lies that she allowed herself to believe as she struggled with comparison, self-image, and the uncertainty of finding her purpose.”
When asked what she hopes readers get from the book, Layton replied, “My hope is that, when people read the book, they can see God’s hand in their own story the way that they see His hand woven through mine.”
Movieguide® previously reported on “Look What You’ve Done”:
Layton said that she was “vulnerable” in the book,” saying “things I thought would help people.” The singer shared moments when faith helped her out of touch situations and changed the way she thought about herself.
“I think when you are fully honest about your story, that’s the thing that really helps people. That is what helps people know I’m not crazy, and I’m not alone,” she added.
“I think when I experienced God’s truth replacing the lies in my life, I felt his love in a way that I had never felt before,” she explained.
“I knew that He loved me. I knew that He adored me. He adored my singing voice. He loved when I worshiped Him, when I led worship, all the things that were in my heart to do. I felt a freedom to do like never before because I knew how God felt about me. And that honestly changed how I started treating other people too because when you know how much God loves you, then you start to recognize how much He loves other people,” she concluded.
The singer also shared two lessons she learned when she was struggling with her faith.
“Number one: Jesus was the one with the power,” she explained. “And number two: that He was pursuing me. I didn’t have to strive or work up enough goodness to be worthy of His love.”
Layton then talked about how she shares her faith with others, specifically non-believers.
“When Christ is in your life, when you are a follower of Christ, His spirit within you is enough. You do not have to force yourself on other people, you do not have to shove anything down their throat,” she explained. “You love them until they ask why. You love them the way God is telling you to love them, and they will see and feel the difference. That is powerful. We underestimate the power of God’s love.”
In an interview with Woman’s World, Layton shared more encouragement for anyone struggling.
“Don’t be afraid to reach out for help,” she stressed. “We feel we have to have it all together all the time, or that our faith should be strong enough to get us through something alone, just us and God. But God made us to be together.”
