Tim Tebow on Hope: ‘Look Forward With Confidence, Expectation and Anticipation’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Tim Tebow is sharing his thoughts on how we view the concept of hope.

“The way we talk about hope in our society, I don’t always really love,” he said in a recent Instagram video. “Because in our society, hope means, ‘I’m just flipping a coin, and I hope it lands on heads.’”

Tebow continued, “One of my favorite definitions of hope comes from the biblical definition of hope, which means ‘to look forward with confidence, expectation and anticipation.’ Because that form of hope isn’t based on a wish, isn’t based on a coin-flip, isn’t based on a ‘maybe’; it’s based on a promise.”

He explained that we should approach hope with the mindset of “We get the chance to give them an opportunity where they can look forward with confidence, expectation and anticipation.”

“What if hope was a way of life?” Tebow asked. “That you thought about in a way that our culture is a culture of hope, not a culture of…flipping a coin. I mean, looking forward with confidence, expectation and anticipation because it’s based on promises that are promises kept. Not, ‘I hope my team wins.’”

In the video’s caption, Tebow asked his followers, “How can you start making hope a way of life, today?”

Tebow often shares messages of faith on social media. One recent post saw him encouraging his followers to use their own platforms to influence the world around them.

“Never underestimate your influence,” he wrote. “No platform or place is too small to inspire change – it’s the passion and purpose behind it that matters. Whatever position you’re in right now, take hold of the opportunities before you and make them count!”

Tebow is taking his own advice by using his platform to spotlight the issue of human trafficking. He recently spoke to Congress about the need for a bill that would create a “rescue team” for children who are victims of online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

“There are so many frontline warriors and heroes, but there just aren’t enough and we need to support them. We need more of them to get to these 50,000 boys and girls,” he explained. “Every one of those boys and girls is worth us answering the call and doing everything we can so they can experience the faith, hope and love that they deserve, not the bondage and torture they’re in right now. We have to do more than talk about it; we have to act.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the work Tebow does through his Tim Tebow Foundation to combat human trafficking:

When he started his Tim Tebow Foundation, one of the first things Tebow did was set up a leg of the non-profit to combat human trafficking.

In the ten years since, the foundation has reached 30 countries, built 29 safe homes with 27 more currently under construction, led 5 USA-based operations in conjunction with law enforcement and built four USA-based safe houses. Last year alone, these safe houses provided over 8,000 safe nights to those rescued.

“While we are grateful for the impact we have had, I can’t help but feel that we are at a point in history–a point just like the one my dad faced years ago–where we cannot stand silently and passively watch as evil rages on,” Tebow said. “We need to go faster. We need to reach more!”
