Multi-time X-Games gold medalist Tony Hawk counts becoming a grandpa among his “biggest adventure[s]” yet.
When asked at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, “When you look back at that time and you think about now and the journey that you’ve had in between over nearly three decades, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?”
Hawk responded, “How excited my kids were to come see this live. I actually got to jump into a pool of slime the first time I did it, and my son was three at the time. I pulled him into the pool of slime with me because he looked like he was excited about it, and very quickly, he realized that he didn’t want to be there. And then I didn’t know how to get him out of there because no one would grab him.”
Hawk said the best thing about the Kids’ Choice Awards is the fact that “it’s chosen by kids.”
But Hawk’s favorite part is that he can enjoy it all with his family.
“Honestly, the biggest adventure I have these days is grandparenting. So I’m going to stick in that lane for now,” Hawk said.
He’s grandpa to Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, his son Riley Hawk and daughter-in-law Frances Bean Cobain’s son.
“Watching him develop. I mean he literally crawled this morning for the first time and we got to see it. That was amazing,” he said of his grandson.
Hawk even admitted that he sort of missed being on diaper duty.
“It’s a different experience when you are experienced at it. So when you’re a new parent, it’s kind of overwhelming and scary, and then when you’re a grandparent, you’re like: I got this, no problem. You can also give the baby back at the end of the day,” he shared.
Hawk stays active in the skating world.
Last week, he took his 1999 X-Games skateboard and helmet for one more drop on the half-pipe.

“Took my board & helmet from 1999 @xgames for one more wistful session. This gear, my shoes from that day, and a bunch of other memorabilia from the last 4+ decades will be featured in an upcoming @juliens_auctions,” Hawk shared on Instagram.
Hawk will also be releasing his signature video game, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 +4, on July 11.
“The Shred’s Not Dead PSA. If you or someone you know is way less rad than they used to be, they may be suffering from Shred Loss. Play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 and get your shred back!” he posted on social media.
Out of all of Hawk’s adventures, being a grandparent takes the cake.
