TRON: ARES will finally hit Disney+ on Jan. 7, 2026.
“TRON: ARES follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings,” a synopsis reads. It stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson, alongside original TRON star Jeff Bridges. Joachim Rønning directed. Jesse Wigutow wrote the screenplay.
The movie first arrived in theaters in October, and Leto expressed his gratitude on Instagram at the time.

“I fell in love with Tron when I first saw it in theaters back when I was a kid,” he wrote. “I’ve now had a chance to be a part of this series, and I’m so very grateful for that. Thank you for supporting this childhood dream of mine, thank you to the amazing cast & crew who made this possible, and thank you for watching🙏🥏🔥”
In a separate interview, Leto shared appreciation for the original TRON star Jeff Bridges.
“Oh, he’s the dude, man. He’s the best,” he said. “Everything-he’s everything that you think he’s going to be. He’s kind, he’s fun, he’s funny, he’s generous. Safe to say, some of the most memorable moments from making the movie were the days that we had with Jeff. I wish I had more. I look forward to more in the future. He’s just a good person to be around, a great example of an awesome career. And I think the first time he walked on set, everyone just started applauding.”
Despite anticipation for the movie, TRON: AREAS did not do well at the box office. Yahoo! reported, “It only earned a worldwide gross of $142 million against a budget of around $180-220 million.”
Movieguide®’s review of TRON: ARES reads, “TRON: ARES is an exciting, superlative science fiction thriller about power and control, with a strong pro-life message. It has lots of action and great special effects, along with strong humor and heart. The movie’s pro-life message is powerful and compelling.”
The review notes that “TRON: ARES has strong action violence, which includes scary war machines. The cruel villain wants to kill his business rival, but the hero rebels. TRON: ARES also has some foul language, including a strong profanity. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.”
If you’re a fan of TRON, you won’t want to miss seeing it on Disney+ in just a few days.
