What This Actor Noticed After Becoming a Christian
By Movieguide® Contributor
Russell Brand discussed a surprising way the Lord has shown up in his life since he became a Christian and began regularly praying and reading the Bible.
“There’s a famous William Temple quote that must always be considered: ‘The more I pray, the more coincidences seem to happen.’ Coincidences are made by prayer, an almost sacred synergy, you might call it,” Brand said.
“So I was thinking about this idea of our Lord Jesus knocking on the door of my heart because I started feeling like even though I am a Christian, there is of course more to yield; more selfishness, more character within me to be yielded to Him. And then today, on my anniversary, my wife gave me this gift,” Brand continued, holding up a box with two doors that opened up to the crucifixion.
“What a great anniversary present from a great wife…” he added. “How lucky we all are to live saved by our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.”

This feeling of having the Lord knock on his heart is what caused Brand to become a Christian earlier this year. After living a life of debauchery for decades, the actor began to search for meaning and wholeness through new avenues, mainly religion. Though he tried out multiple belief systems, Christianity struck him as the most fulfilling and the most true.
After months of wrestling with God, Brand committed his life to Christ earlier this year and has been very bold about his belief and relationship with the Lord and how it has grown him in just a couple of months.
He has kept fans updated about the life changes he has seen since committing his life to Christ, such as much more peace and a feeling of wholeness, as well as challenges to his character, including his selfishness and self-savior beliefs.
“When I am in doubt, I feel the instruction there is accessible, and I know what I am supposed to do, and when I don’t do what I am supposed to do, that is even clearer,” Brand said in May. “When I feel myself being selfish or inconsiderate or putting myself first or not thinking about how I can be better to other people, it is as if there is an inner illumination available to me now.”
Please pray for Brand as he continues on his faith journey. It is incredible to see him be so bold about his beliefs.

One month after his baptism, actor Russell Brand is sharing how his newfound relationship with Jesus has changed his life.
“I’ve been a Christian a month now, and it’s been a big change,” Brand shared on his X page. “Not that I’ve entirely changed as a person, of course I haven’t, but I’ve taken on a lot of new concepts, and it changes you to accept that it’s not like you’re in a game show and by doing really, really good things you can get redeemed.”
“No, repentance — to repent — means that you have to continually change and acknowledge that I am in a battle against myself,” he continued. “That I need to surrender myself to an ever-present, eternal and accessible Jesus. That mercy is something that’s been given to me, been granted to me, that I live with through love, not something that I can sort of win or achieve by doing good deeds.”
