Why Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph Thanks God for Good and Bad Days

By Movieguide® Contributor

ABBOTT ELEMENTARY actress Sheryl Lee Ralph shared that she thanks God for the good and bad days while reflecting on her tips for a long life.

“My life has been about preparing for longevity,” the actress said in an interview with AARP. “Finding my joy, making great choices for me, understanding that life is not always fair. Sometimes it’s your day. Sometimes it’s not your day. But if it’s a good day or a bad day, you’ve got to thank God because you got a day.”

Ralph’s dedication to good health comes from advice her father gave her.

“I try to get my steps in. I set a goal for myself, and I tried to do it,” Ralph said about her health. “All you have to do is make an effort. I take my rest seriously. I tried to get at least six to eight hours every night. Now and then, I tell everybody in my circle, you need to get a checkup from the neck up.”

Ralph plays a Christian kindergarten teacher in ABBOT ELEMENTARY. A Christian in real life, too, Ralph came on TBN’s PRAISE and talked about how Christians should treat others.

“If you get confused when you’re reading your Bible, stop and go back and read the red parts,” she said. “The red parts for those who might not know are the things that Jesus himself…was said to have really said.”

She continued, “And you cannot find anything in those words that say ‘hate these people because they have been hated on before, ignore those people because they have always been ignored.’ It says nothing like that.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Ralph winning a Critics Choice Award:

‘Every mistake, every back break, every ‘No’, every rejection in an industry that when I was 19 years old was quick to tell me there was no place for me,’ Ralph said. ‘Sidney Poitier looked at me and said, ‘You’re a … good actress.’’

‘That God could lead me to a moment when a young woman by the name of Quinta Brunson would look at me and say, ‘Ms. Ralph, I’m not sleeping on your talent,’’ the actress said.

Ralph also thanked her family, saying, ‘If you get a husband like mine in your corner, if you get children like mine in your corner, and if you’ve got friends like everybody who voted for me, cheered for me, loved me, thank you! Thank you! Thank you!’
