Why COUNTRY EVER AFTER Is the Show We Need Right Now

His cowboy hat is as big as her heart, and together, they bring some much-needed joy, compassion and down-home values back to the small screen.

Coffey and Criscilla Anderson star in COUNTRY EVER AFTER, a reality TV show executive produced by Roma Downey on Netflix right now. He’s an independent country artist, and she’s a hip-hop dancer who’s worked with artists including Snoop Dogg and Britney Spears. They’re complete opposites, except for one thing: Their faith.

In Episode 1, the couple is very clear that their faith in Jesus Christ sustains their family. They have scripture verses hanging in their home. They bow their head before meals. Their coffee cups say “pray.” Coffey goes to a local Christian school to preach and share his testimony.

Criscilla is fighting Stage 3 colon cancer and credits her faith in Jesus for helping her make it through a miserable eight rounds of chemotherapy.

The Andersons’ faith is not just about checking boxes — it’s how they live out their life. Authenticity oozes from the family as they interact with one another, their children, and their community. In one episode, the couple raises money to help a single mother and take their children to buy gifts for her children.

It’s so refreshing to see a family practicing Christian values, speak boldly about the name of Jesus on TV, and raise their children to follow biblical guidelines.

“I think you have to have a yard for people to play in and live in. The yard that we try to raise our children in is the Bible,” Coffey told Movieguide® in an interview. “I’m preparing them for not only self-responsibility, but also saying no matter what other people look like, I have my boundaries, which is what we’re going to use, which is the Bible.

“I think that that personal responsibility is a big deal,” Coffey continued. “And so having the scripture that leads us and gives us those guidelines, I think that actually gives you freedom.”

It’s very clear that this family is filled with the fruit of the Spirit and want to share it with others. Overall, the show overwhelmingly preaches the Gospel in word and deed. However, there are a few minor cautions including some light profanities in one episode, bare female midriffs in a few dance scenes, some very brief potty jokes, and a handful of innuendoes. None of this, though, takes away from the central message of family values.

COUNTRY EVER AFTER is a heartwarming show that we desperately need today. It extols family values, biblical principles, prayer, giving, compassion, and optimism, among other positive elements. When our country is so divided and media attacks traditional values, COUNTRY EVER AFTER promotes a sense of unity and wholesome entertainment.

Though Netflix often distributes abhorrent content, this is one show that’s safe for families to watch together.
