Why Dolly Parton Says She Won’t Do ‘A Full-Blown Tour’ Again
By Movieguide® Contributor
Dolly Parton might still be making new music, but the country superstar just revealed she has no plans to keep touring.
“I do not think I will ever tour again,” Parton explained. “I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore.”
“I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy,” she continued. “I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband. We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fans.”
Parton’s fans are sad to hear she will no longer be hitting the road with her tunes, but the country star is still hard at work, from new albums, to television projects.
She’s currently working on a Christmas special for NBC.
“It’s a show within a show,” she explained. “What we’re doing is focused on the dramatic side. It’s showing all the things that go on while you’re putting together a show. All the arguments you have with the producers, all the problems you have with the artists, all the problems you have with scenery falling down and all the things that go on backstage, people having to cancel and reschedule real quick.”
“I wouldn’t consider me acting, because I’m just totally myself in this,” Parton went on. “I’m just Dolly all the way, I’m not playing a character.”
One of Parton’s previous holiday specials was NBC’s DOLLY PARTON’S COAT OF MANY COLORS. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:
DOLLY PARTON’S COAT OF MANY COLORS is delightful and faith-inspiring throughout! Though some may consider it a sanitized reflection of its time and place, as a television special viewed by millions, it’s a refreshing celebration of the simple things that truly matter – faith, family and forgiveness. The movie discusses repentance, Christ’s resurrection and redemption in ways rarely seen on television. Only a light caution is advised for three rather light obscenities and an exclamatory profanity. Otherwise, DOLLY PARTON’S COAT OF MANY COLORS is a fantastic TV movie the whole family can watch together and enjoy.
