Alex Trebek was recently honored with a Forever Stamp on what would have been his 84th birthday.
“My family and I were completely surprised about Alex being honored by the U.S. Postal Service,” Trebek’s widow Jean said at the ceremony unveiling the stamp. “It is such an extraordinary honor and a wonderful way to recognize what Alex meant to so many people.”
She continued, “Alex would be over the moon about this distinctive honor and he’d feel very humbled. I think the stamp design is very creative because Alex Trebek is the answer to all the clues.”
In another statement, Jean said, “His life had such a beautiful impact on so many people around the world, and it’s just a real honor for my family and I to be here with all of you to acknowledge that. Alex would have felt overwhelmed with humility and joy to receive such a distinctive tribute.”
The stamp pays tribute to Trebek’s long history as the host of JEOPARDY!, with a design that looks like the iconic blue screen that shows contestants and viewers the quiz show’s questions.
“Each stamp reads ‘THIS NATURALIZED U.S. CITIZEN HOSTED THE QUIZ SHOW “JEOPARDY!” FOR 37 SEASONS,’” a statement from the USPS said. “Underneath, upside down, is the correct response: ‘Who is Alex Trebek?’”
Current JEOPARDY! host Ken Jennings said, “It’s so appropriate that the stamp illustration commemorates Alex with a JEOPARDY! clue. He loved the game so much, and he always insisted the clues were the true star of the show.”

The USPS recently revealed plans for a Forever Stamp honoring the late JEOPARDY! host Alex Trebek.
“I’m excited to announce that the next icon to receive a stamp will be our very own Alex Trebek,” JEOPARDY! host Ken Jennings said during a recent episode of the game show. “The stamp will be officially released on July 22, on what would have been Alex’s 84th birthday.”
Trebek died in November 2020 after a battle with cancer.
A statement from the USPS reads, “Alex Trebek’s finesse as a television host made him a welcome presence in millions of homes. His lifelong tally at the helm of one game show — more than 8,200 JEOPARDY! episodes — is a world record.”
