Late JEOPARDY! Host Alex Trebek Honored With Forever Stamp

By Movieguide® Contributor

The USPS recently revealed plans for a Forever Stamp honoring the late JEOPARDY! host Alex Trebek.

“I’m excited to announce that the next icon to receive a stamp will be our very own Alex Trebek,” JEOPARDY! host Ken Jennings said during a recent episode of the game show. “The stamp will be officially released on July 22, on what would have been Alex’s 84th birthday.”

Trebek died in November 2020 after a battle with cancer.

A statement from the USPS reads, “Alex Trebek’s finesse as a television host made him a welcome presence in millions of homes. His lifelong tally at the helm of one game show — more than 8,200 JEOPARDY! episodes — is a world record.”

The stamp will look like a JEOPARDY! clue, with white text on a blue background that reads, “This naturalized U.S. citizen hosted the quiz show JEOPARDY! for 37 seasons.”

Trebek’s stamp coincides with JEOPARDY’s 60th anniversary Diamond Celebration, which began earlier this year.

“For 60 years, JEOPARDY! has been America’s favorite sport of the mind, defying time and continuing to attract viewers of all generations,” said Suzanne Prete, President of Game Shows at Sony Pictures Television. “Like the true diamond that it is, we’re excited to bring our fans a year of festivities to honor this important milestone while inspiring enthusiasm for the franchise’s future through the 60th Diamond Celebration.”

Trebek’s Forever Stamp will be available for purchase July 22.

Movieguide® previously reported on Jennings’ appointment as the permanent host of the game show:

Ken Jennings has hosted JEOPARDY! alongside Mayim Bialik since the death of Alex Trebek in 2020. Now, Jennings will be the sole host of JEOPARDY! and CELEBRITY JEOPARDY!.

He talked with the Hollywood Reporter about Bialik’s exit and what it means for him to be the only JEOPARDY! host.

Jennings opened up about his response to Bialik’s removal from the show.

“It took me off guard, because I loved working with my Mayim and I’m gonna miss her. I can’t speak to her decision-making process or her opinions about it,” he said.

“I was very surprised. I did not get a heads up…I really enjoyed working with her these past couple of years,” Jennings recently told Cinema Blend.

Despite the loss of his co-host, Jennings feels grateful that it allows him to be the permanent JEOPARDY! host.

“On my end, I’m just a fan of JEOPARDY! and I’m always delighted to host when they call upon me. I just feel extremely lucky to have even been considered for this job as a non-broadcaster,” he gushed.
