More Detail:

LEGO MARVEL AVENGERS:  MISSION DEMOLITION is an animated comedy special on Disney+. Dennis, a clean-up specialist at Damage Control, longs to join the Avengers. He’s an expert at breaking things but lacks confidence in himself.

One day, Terry, Dennis’ best friend at work, steals a magic ax from Damage Control and becomes a supervillain. Terry captures the Avengers and plots to take over the world. Will Dennis be able to rescue Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?

LEGO MARVEL AVENGERS: MISSION DEMOLITION begins with the Avengers stopping an in-progress robbery in New York City. The team apprehends the villains but accidentally crashes the truck into a building. The Avengers call on Damage Control, an organization responsible for cleaning up the damage the heroes and villains leave behind.

The special then transitions to Dennis, a Damage Control employee who’s better at breaking things than cleaning them up. Dennis looks up to the Avengers and vows to meet them at Avengers Con. However, hours before the convention begins, Dennis accidentally breaks into a building and is forced to work overtime. Desperate, he calls upon his guy friend Terry for help.

Terry convinces Dennis there’s a way to fix the mess in time. Dennis opens the secret artifact room located within Damage Control. However, Terry raids the vault, steals a magic ax, and unleashes a giant vacuum upon the city. Terry, now “Terrax,” plots to capture the Avengers and take over the world. Dennis escapes from his friend’s wrath and teams up with Vision.

Dennis must muster up his courage, free the Avengers, and prove to his friends that he is more than a mere klutz.

In terms of entertainment value, LEGO MARVEL AVENGERS:  MISSION DEMOLITION is stunning. The characters, sets and fights are animated entirely from LEGO pieces. The animation is snappy, fluid and full of great visual gags. The humor has excellent slapstick, fourth wall breaks, and numerous deep-cut references to lesser-known Marvel characters. Dennis also interacts with She-Hulk, DareDevil and other Marvel heroes. For only 44 minutes, this special is packed to the brim with wit.

LEGO MARVEL AVENGERS:  MISSION DEMOLITION has a strong moral worldview. The TV. Special stresses saving innocent civilians, overcoming self-doubt, and facing evil despite lacking superpowers. Dennis, the main character, overcomes his self-doubt and uses his gift of “destruction” to free his idols from a vacuum. He also learns that being a hero isn’t the costume or the powers but the willingness to do the right thing. Moreover, Dennis and the Avengers embody teamwork, courage and saving civilians from danger. Dennis becomes a true hero despite his lack of real superpowers.

The only potential downside to LEGO MARVEL AVENGERS:  MISSION DEMOLITION is its LEGO violence. Characters often fight with hand-to-hand combat, a giant vacuum sucks up civilians, and numerous LEGO buildings are smashed to pieces. The Marvel heroes and villains use high-tech lasers and elemental powers in combat. Moreover, the robot hero Vision is “beheaded” by the villain. There’s no blood or gore, but the violence in MISSION DEMOLITION is more intense than in other LEGO specials on Disney+. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.
