A LETTER TO DAD is a powerful drama addressing the struggles of a boy named Dan who grows up with an angry and abusive father.
The movie’s opening finds an adult Dan Donahue ready to propose to the girl of his dreams, but he falters because he can’t overcome his deep-rooted anger for his father. Trying to find healing and forgiveness, Dan writes a letter to his dad, detailing the events of his childhood from Dan’s perspective.
Cut to Dan’s parents getting a divorce when Dan’s in grade school because of his father’s drinking problem. As Dan grows up, he continues to struggle during uncomfortable visits with his dad. In high school, Dan makes wild friends who also have abusive or negligent fathers. Toward the end of high school, Dan finds the love of God, his heavenly father. This starts Dan on a path toward healing and manhood.
