IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT: Quality: * * * * Acceptability: +2 – 1935: Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert star in this very funny comedy. It set the stage for the genre known as screwball comedy and won all five of the top Oscars. In the story, Colbert plays a heiress who runs away from home when her father forbids her to marry her scandalous beau. Gable plays a reporter who needs a hot story and figures he’s found one in the ditzy dame portrayed by Colbert.
