POOTIE TANG

"Lame Satire"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

POOTIE TANG is a stupid comedy based on a sketch from HBO’s “The Chris Rock Show.” It’s a lame satire about an African-American superhero in the inner city named Pootie Tang, who talks in incomprehensible slang. Saying phrases like, “I’m gonna sine your pitty on the runny kine,” Pootie Tang fights the evil plan of “Corporate America,” namely Dick Lecter of LecterCorp, to use Pootie’s name to sell cigarettes, fast food and alcohol to children.

POOTIE TANG plays like an R-rated movie that was toned down and filled with simple messages for children so that it could get a PG-13 rating. Thus, scenes of sexually aroused women literally throwing themselves at Pootie Tang are mixed with moral messages on a children’s level about not talking dirty, not using drugs and loving the world. These messages originate from Pootie Tang’s parents, including his disciplinarian father. Regrettably, the moral messages become a politically correct assault on what the movie calls “Corporate America,” which is condemned for selling cigarettes and fattening fast foods. There are also many instances of foul language and immoral sexual references, although most of the movie’s few “f” words are bleeped out by the censors.

Content:

(PaPa, B, PCPC, AcapAcap, AP, LLL, V, SS, NN, A, DD, M) Comical pagan worldview with some moral notions for parents & children in an urban setting, but also some strong politically correct, anti-capitalist messages with a slight anti-American tinge, with the movie’s pagan worldview also endorsing pre-marital sexuality; 78 obscenities, including some bleeped “f” words, & 6 profanities, including a few strong ones; mild cartoon violence such as man uses belt & karate to slap & beat villains, hero is able to dodge many bullets from bad guys, woman slaps men she’s trying to seduce, & sexually aroused woman leaps onto man & they crash through glass window; depicted sexuality such as women throw themselves at superhero, implied fornication, prostitutes shown standing on sidewalks, & woman seduces men by thrusting her body onto them repeatedly; partial male nudity as women rub hands over man’s bear chest & kiss his shoulder area; alcohol use; no smoking, but villains offer cocaine to child when hero arrives to stop them; and, criminal activity rebuked & people hang out on street corners, including woman in an area frequented by prostitutes.

The worldview of Chris Rock, one of the producers and stars of this movie, is now becoming ever more clear since the days when he was billed as the new Eddie Murphy on TV’s skit comedy show SATURDAY NIGHT LIFE. It’s an awkward mixture of pagan, post-modern political correctness mixed with old-fashioned morality held over from the weakened Christianity of the liberals in America’s African-American community. We’re still waiting for another African-American comedian of national pre-eminence besides Bill Cosby who can espouse a more edifying mixture of Christian principles and practical wisdom. Will someone answer the call?
