Built around the lives of a young abandoned grandson and his irascible grandfather, ROOMMATES is the recounting of the thirty-year relationship between Michael and Rocky (D.B. Sweeney and Peter Falk). The story opens in 1963 as Rocky rescues Michael from a potential life in an orphanage and follows young Michael as he grows from a mere lad of seven to a young adult with two children, a thriving surgical practice and a beautiful and sweet wife. The movie is also the story of man’s struggle with the great themes of love, birth, hate, selfishness, and loss. his by his loving grandfather, and his growth into a successful surgeon, with a wife and two beautiful children.
The movie’s mixture of hilarity, drama, suspense, tragedy, and profound sadness give it the potential to become an award-winning production. From start to finish, the superb acting carries the audience on an emotional safari. In the interim, all the heart’s strings are played. However, while holding great promise as an enjoyable dramatic story, this movie is tragically marred by foul language and sexual immorality. While “tastefully done,” depicting no actual nudity, the one sex scene could have just as easily been deleted. None of the offensive material is germane to the story and serves only to offend and distract from an otherwise enjoyable production.
