What You Need To Know:
THE CHRIST SLAYER is a God-honoring movie, with multiple nods to scripture and Roman history. The movie has a strong Christian, moral worldview where there is a defeat of internal struggles like guilt and shame. However, the substandard CGI, cinematography and acting caused this movie to miss the mark in certain areas. Regardless, THE CHRIST SLAYER extols prayer, faith and the conquering of guilt and shame by the power of God, which is the ultimate saving grace of this movie.

More Detail:
THE CHRIST SLAYER is a historical fiction drama which follows the story of a blind centurion named Longinus who pierced Christ’s side at the site of His crucifixion. The movie spans the time after the crucifixion, where Longinus travels in a fruitless attempt to escape the unexplained guilt of ‘Slaying Christ’ and the new nickname of “Christ Slayer.”
Longinus comes from a noble family who has given him this position in society despite his blindness. After the slaying of Christ, he receives nightmares where he finds himself in a lion’s pit about to be eaten alive. Every time he wakes up from these nightmares, Longinus has his sight back for a moment. Unable to sleep, eat or function properly, he’s overwhelmed by the guilt of murdering Christ after Mary the mother of Jesus pays him a visit. She tells the centurion she forgives him and is grateful that he killed her son.
Incapable of understanding grace, Longinus sets off to go back home into the wilderness where he was raised by the Magi. He travels with his handicapped servant boy, and they are attacked by a gang of thieves in the night. In the midst of the attack, a brave stranger appears to save them. Afraid that the stranger might rob them as well, Longinus gives the fake name of Cleopis, his servant boy goes by the name Titus, and the stranger chooses the name John.
As John completes the journey into the wilderness with them, it is later revealed that he is Jesus the Son of God and has risen from the dead after three days in the tomb. Longinus continues with an internal struggle bouncing back and forth between guilt and shame. Once he discovers the truth of John’s identity, he commits his life to God, is baptized and receives full sight.
THE CHRIST SLAYER is a tremendously biblical movie. The biblical storyline gives added historical dimension to the movie. Unfortunately, the poor CGI, cinematography and acting distract from what otherwise is a God glorifying movie. Due to some light violence, alcohol use and innuendo, MOVIEGUIDE® advises that younger children don’t watch THE CHRIST SLAYER.
