Chapter 5 of THE WINGFEATHER SAGA is an animated fantasy television series streaming on Angel Studios. It centers on the Igiby children trying to break their mother and grandfather out of Fang prison. Their neighbors distract the guards for the children. However, the local Fang commander already knows about the prison break. He and his soldiers capture the children. He sentences the entire Igiby family to the inhumane Fang gulag. Is there any way for them to escape?

Chapter 5 of THE WINGFEATHER SAGA is yet another solid, highly entertaining episode of this family-friendly series based on the popular children’s books. It contains several positive Christian, moral, pro-family values. For example, it promotes sacrifice, bravery, fighting tyranny, helping other people, and using self-defense to overcome an evil enemy. However, Chapter Five does ratchet up the fantasy violence. It features sword combat, a hostage situation, three stabbings, and Fang soldiers who turn into dust after dying in combat. There is even a “parental guidance” warning at the start of the chapter. THE WINGFEATHER SAGA is an animated fantasy television series by Angel Studios. The show is based on the Andrew Peterson book franchise of the same name. The fifth chapter, “Fruit for Zouzab,” centers on the Igiby children breaking their mother and grandfather out of Fang prison. The prison escape goes awry and results in a dangerous fist fight. Can our heroes elude their reptilian captors in time?

Chapter five begins with Nia Igiby and her father, Podo, being thrown into the town prison. Commander Gnorm interrogates the two humans regarding the powerful jewels of Anniera. Gnorm gives the two prisoners a choice. Tell him where the other family gems are and be set free, or be escorted via the Black Carriage at the end of the day. Nia and Podo keep their mouths closed for the time being.

Meanwhile, Oskar, the local bookstore merchant, escorts the three Igiby siblings to his home. Oskar is an articulate yet trusted friend of the Igiby family. Oskar and his wife plan to lead the three children out of town, but the siblings refuse to leave their mother and grandfather behind. Janner, Tink and Leeli Igiby hatch a plan to free their elders from jail.

In the afternoon, Oskar visits his bookstore for crucial supplies. Zouzab, Oskar’s athletic and conniving assistant, tells him that Fang soldiers were searching the store earlier. The Igiby children are wanted fugitives. If anyone can turn them into the Fang, then the Fang authorities will leave Zouzab and his village alone. Oskar claims he hasn’t seen the children in days, but Zouzab has his doubts.

Later that night, Oskar, his neighbors and the children launch their plan to break out Podo and Nia. The neighbors distract the guards as the children free the prisoners. However, the guards launch a surprise ambush against the Igiby family. Zouzab, Oskar’s assistant, betrayed his neighbors and broke the plan to Commander Gnorm a few hours prior. Gnorm rewards Zouzab with a supply of apples.

Commander Gnorm sentences the entire Igiby family to the inhumane Fang gulag. Is there any way for them to escape?

However, Podo tosses a surprise punch to a soldier’s face. The Igiby family and the guards engage in a brawl with fists, swords and crossbows. The humans stab Gnorm and his squad behind their backs. The soldiers fall onto the ground and their bodies evaporate into dust. The family and the neighbors reunite with Oskar, who is suffering from a flesh wound. The five Igiby members tend his wounds, but he leaves them with a warning: word of Gnorm’s death has reached his superiors, and the Fang army is quickly advancing for revenge.

On the way out of town, Slarb ambushes the family and holds Tink Igiby hostage. Slarb orders the family to hand over their chest of jewels or else see Tink perish. Podo hands his chest to Slarb. Slarb opens the container, only to find a legion of hungry beavers latch to his face. Tink flees to his family as Slarb retreats to the forest. The family then spots a swarm of torches just outside of town. With nowhere else to go, Janner and his siblings are set on finding help from the anti-Fang resistance. There is no turning back.
