UNDER THE SKIN (2014)

"Pretentious, Boring, Abhorrent Science Fiction"

What You Need To Know:

UNDER THE SKIN is a very weird science fiction movie. With minimal dialogue, the movie tells the sordid story of a beautiful white woman in Scotland, driving a white van, who seduces lonely men to a weird, impossible death. The woman, who doesn’t really have a name, first finds out if the men are staying with anyone or have a family. If they’re alone, she entices them into a ride or a walk to her rundown house. There, she entices the men to their doom. It becomes clear that the woman is an alien wearing a human disguise.

UNDER THE SKIN is one of the worst, most boring and most pretentious science fiction movies ever made. In fact, it’s one of the worst, most boring and most pretentious movies ever made, period. It also tells a sordid, abhorrent story that will turn off most moviegoers. Eventually, the alien woman meets her own doom in a sordid way. UNDER THE SKIN contains explicit and extreme nudity. The movie’s humanist worldview seems rather nihilistic – a survival-of-the-fittest story with little or no compassion or humanity.

Content:

(HH, L, VV, SS, NNN, A, D, MMM) Strong humanist, almost nihilistic, worldview where female alien assumes an alluring human form to prey on human men, then becomes murdered by a human male who tries to rape her, so the movie’s sort of like a depressing “survival-of-the-fittest” tale with no real compassion or emotion; one “f” word; strong violence includes attempted rape, woman lures men to their deaths as they sink into a watery, gelatin-like substance, one scene under the water substance shows the men’s skin somehow becoming like balloons without any air in them, a woman’s dead body is placed inside a van, and would-be rapist pours gasoline on alien victim and sets her afire till just ashes and black smoke floating into the sky are left; strong sexual content includes depicted sex scene cut short, attempted rape, and woman lures men to their deaths by starting to take their clothes off and, usually, the male victims take off all their clothes before she does; scenes with full frontal male and female nudity (sometimes the female nudity is obscured but not always), rear nudity, upper female nudity, and upper male nudity; apparent alcohol use at a nightclub; smoking; and, deceit, lying, stalking, aliens pose as human beings, one man has an extremely deformed face.

More Detail:

UNDER THE SKIN is one of the worst, most boring and most pretentious science fiction movies ever made. In fact, it’s one of the worst, most boring and most pretentious movies ever made, period. It also tells a sordid, abhorrent story that will turn off moviegoers with even a modicum sense of taste, proportion or morality.

With hardly any dialogue, the movie tells the sordid story of a beautiful white woman in Scotland, driving a white van, who seduces lonely men to a weird, impossible death. The woman, who doesn’t really have a name, first finds out if the men are staying with anyone or have a family. If they are alone, she entices them into a ride or a walk to her rundown house. There, she starts stripping in front of them. As the men eagerly take off their own clothes, she walks them into a translucent, gelatin like liquid, where they sink, and their insides somehow get eaten away, and their skin turns into something resembling a balloon without any air. The woman somehow manages to walk on top of the substance as the men slowly disappear. These deaths are just creepy rather than really gruesome.

The strange murders happen repeatedly. It becomes clear, in a murky sort of way, that the woman is some kind of alien. (SPOILER) Her activities eventually lead to her own gruesome murder.

UNDER THE SKIN is boring, pretentious and abhorrent. It’s also excruciatingly slow moving, infuriatingly cryptic and purposefully weird. In fact, it’s so slow, cryptic and weird that it quickly becomes silly as well as annoying. In addition to its sexual content, UNDER THE SKIN also contains extreme explicit nudity of both men and women. (SPOILER) Eventually, the story ends with an attempted and a murder, as a would-be rapist burns the alien protagonist to death. Thus, the movie’s humanist worldview seems rather nihilistic – a survival-of-the-fittest story with little or no compassion or humanity. There’s really no reason to see this stupid, abhorrent movie.
