"Mystical Adventure"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR has the O’Connell family, including father Rick, mother Evelyn and son Alex, joining forces with an immortal Chinese woman and her beautiful daughter. An evil general named Yang has awakened the Han Emperor so they can conquer the world with the Emperor’s magical knowledge. The heroes must stop the Emperor from drinking from the waters of the Pool of Shangri-La high in the Himalayas and gaining immortality and more power. Even then, they can kill the Emperor with a cursed dagger through the heart, but getting past his resurrected army of mud soldiers is a major obstacle.

TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR has fun, exciting action sequences. The special effects are pretty good. The dialogue is a little corny at times, however, and the characters need more development. Regrettably, the movie’s worldview is too mixed. It features some redemptive, morally uplifting content, but there is some foul language, pagan mythology and magic, including magical curses and other mystical content. Thus, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong caution for family audiences. Despite the mummy references, the movie is more of an action fantasy, not a horror movie.

More Detail:

The third MUMMY movie in Universal’s revised action-adventure series, TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR, is a bit more family friendly than the first two. There are still some elements, however, that require caution.

The movie opens in Ancient China, where a woman (Michelle Yeoh), Zi Yuan, uses a magical curse to stop the evil Han Emperor (Jet Li) from acquiring the key to immortality. After the emperor murders her beloved, she turns him and his army to dried mud.

Cut to 1946, where explorer Rick O-Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his wife, Evelyn (Maria Bello), are bored with their retirement in England. They don’t know it, but their son, Alex (Luke Ford), has skipped out of college to find the tomb of the Han Emperor.

At that moment, Rick and Evelyn accept a mission from the government to return a large jewel, known as the Eye of Shangri-La, to China. Little do they know that an evil general named Yang wants to use the jewel to awaken the Han Emperor so they can conquer the world with the Emperor’s magical knowledge.

Rick, Evelyn and Alex join forces with Zi Yuan’s immortal daughter, Lin (Isabella Leong). They must stop the Emperor from drinking from the waters of the Pool of Shangri-La high in the Himalayas and gaining immortality and more power. Even then, they can kill the Emperor with a cursed dagger created by Lin’s mother, but getting past his resurrected army of mud soldiers presents a major obstacle.
