COMEDY: THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

What You Need To Know:

COMEDY: THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED is a documentary by Michael Jr. Michael Jr. is a very funny comedian who has been featured on the Jay Leno Show and at the MOVIEGUIDE® Awards. In this DVD, Michael decides that the homeless, the sick, and the imprisoned should have the same opportunity to laugh and be uplifted as the rich and famous. So, most of the movie is Michael appearing at a men’s prison, the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, and an AIDS hospice. The most poignant section involves a young boy abused by his mother. She would pull his fingernails out and subject him to other tortures. He was so withdrawn that he hides in a Spider-Man outfit. Michael not only gets him to laugh, but eventually, he removes his spider mask and joins Michael onstage. This poignant transformation is enough to you cry.

This is a straightforward documentary with a strong theme – liberating people through laughter. It should be seen in every church. It does not have the dramatic power of a fictional movie, but it does have a deeper power of showing real life transformations. We applaud Michael Jr.

Content:

(CCC, BBB) Very strong Christian, moral worldview about caring for the poor, the homeless, the sick, and the imprisoned; no obscenities or profanities but some very minor scatological inferences; no violence; no sex; no nudity; no alcohol; no smoking or drugs; and, nothing else objectionable.

More Detail:

Michael Jr. is a very funny comedian who has been featured on the Jay Leno Show and at the MOVIEGUIDE® Awards. He is also a deeply committed Christian.

In COMEDY: THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED, Michael is about to do a comedy show for a rich and famous audience. When he looks across the street and sees a homeless person, Michael decides that the homeless, the sick, and the imprisoned should have the same opportunity to laugh and be uplifted as the rich and famous.

So, most of the movie is Michael appearing to disenfranchised groups such as a men’s prison, the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, and an AIDS hospice. At each one, the audience is wary when Michael first begins his routine, but after awhile, each person is transformed by Michael’s ability to laugh at the absurdities of life that keep each of us imprisoned in our pride and prejudice.

The movie’s most poignant section involves a young boy who has been terribly abused by his drug-addicted mother. She would pull his fingernails out and subject him to other tortures. He was so withdrawn that he would only appear hidden in a Spider-Man outfit. Michael not only gets him to laugh, but eventually, he removes his spider mask and joins Michael onstage. This poignant transformation is enough to make a grown man cry.
