GONZO

"The Tormented Muse of the Radical American Left"

What You Need To Know:

GONZO: THE LIFE AND WORK OF DR. HUNTER S. THOMPSON documents Thompson’s life and career as a left-wing “journalist.” The movie covers his reporting on the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, which cemented Thompson’s fame. It also covers his writing on the hippie movement and radical politics of the 1960s, his failed attempt to run for sheriff in his home town in Colorado, his support for George McGovern and his outrageous lies about McGovern’s rival Edmund Muskie during the 1972 presidential campaign, and his infamous drug-addled trip to Las Vegas which became another major book and a movie that bombed at the box office. Finally, the movie discusses Thompson’s decline after 1976, when he helped Jimmy Carter become president. Thompson became a prisoner of his own fame and his own drug-induced sexual infidelity to his first wife. Eventually, Thompson committed suicide after George W. Bush won a second term in 2004.

GONZO doesn’t hide Thompson’s uncontrolled drug use and sexual infidelity, but it thoroughly sides with Thompson’s left-wing politics. This is a movie with a decidedly atheist, Communist, politically correct, anti-American worldview. Leftists like Hunter S. Thompson have thoroughly corrupted American politics.

More Detail:

In 1976, the liberal, radical left community in the United States voted for Jimmy Carter for president because of one man’s positive article on Carter in ROLLING STONE magazine – Hunter S. Thompson, the founder of “gonzo” journalism. In the article, Thompson allayed any fears about the governor being too conservative or too Christian. In fact, he painted Carter as a pretty liberal kind of politician. Today, we are paying for that silly endorsement in many ways, because Carter’s presidency is the one that allowed radical Muslims to take over one of the most important oil-producing countries in the Middle East – Iran. Of course, without Carter as president, we might not have had Ronald Reagan.

Hunter S. Thompson was a tormented muse of the radical American left. GONZO documents Thompson’s life and career as a left-wing “journalist.” Although he had a hedonistic libertarian streak, his agenda was mostly Marxist.

The movie covers Thompson’s reporting on the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, which cemented Thompson’s fame. It also covers his writing on the hippie movement and radical politics of the 1960s, his reporting on the riots during the 968 Democrat Convention, his failed attempt to run for sheriff in his home town in Colorado, his support for George McGovern and his outrageous lies about McGovern’s rival Edmund Muskie during the 1972 presidential campaign, and his infamous drug-addled trip to Las Vegas which became another major book and a movie that bombed at the box office. Finally, the movie discusses Thompson’s decline after 1976, when he became a prisoner of his own fame and his own drug-induced sexual infidelity to his first wife. Eventually, Thompson committed suicide after George W. Bush won a second term in 2004.

GONZO doesn’t hide Thompson’s uncontrolled drug use and sexual infidelity, but it thoroughly sides with Thompson’s Neo-Marxist, left-wing politics. Its most egregious flaws are its failure to mention the two million people murdered by the Communists in Southeast Asia after the Democrats pulled funding from America’s friends there and its paranoid delusions about President Bush’s measures to stop Islamic terrorism. Always, the movie denigrates the United States and its military as being worse than its evil enemies. It also attacks America’s traditional moral values and capitalist system.

One scene at the end discussing plans for Thompson’s funeral uses the song “Spirit in the Sky,” which talks about God, but the filmmakers deliberately reduce the sound to a faint whisper when the singer mentions Jesus. This shows how manipulative this propaganda piece is. Heaven forbid a left-wing movie talk about salvation through Jesus Christ!

This is a movie with a decidedly atheist, Communist, politically correct, anti-American worldview. Leftists like Hunter S. Thompson have thoroughly corrupted American politics, including our political dialogue. Their corruption can be seen in the left’s frequent reliance on obscene language, their sexual hedonism, their promotion of drug use, and their attacks on America’s heritage.
