THE GAME PLAN

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

THE GAME PLAN stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Joe Kingman, the toughest quarterback in the NFL who has never won a Super Bowl. On and off the field, he is stronger, more agile and more egotistical than anyone. Into this solipsistic world steps his beautiful, brilliant 8-year-old daughter Peyton. Joe did not know he had a daughter, but is convinced by her birth certificate. Joe’s agent tells him to keep things low key, or it will destroy his merchandising contracts. Peyton turns Joe’s world upside down and transforms him from a self-centered jerk into a loving father whose priorities are in order.

If you love children and families, THE GAME PLAN will make you feel great! It is a very entertaining movie with lots of good moral points. This role is made for The Rock. And, Madison Pettis is perfect as his daughter, Peyton. In fact, their interaction pulls the movie together because she is so good. The direction, lighting, music, and camerawork in THE GAME PLAN are of the highest quality. They do not detract from the simple premise that love is more important than fame or fortune.

Content:

(BBB, V, N, A, M) Very moral biblical worldview about fathers turning their hearts to their children and children turning their hearts to their fathers, but no overt Christian references; no foul language with two light scatological references; cartoonish slapstick violence in action football sequences, in pratfalls, in ballet sequences where father forgets to catch somebody, father falls off bed, father hits head, and two food allergy sequences, one played for comedy and one serious; very mild references to such things as partying with girls, mostly rebuked, but no implied or depicted sex scenes or crude sexual references or jokes; upper male nudity in locker room, in dressing room and a couple of times when the hero flexes his muscles; light alcohol use; no smoking; and, lots of moral points and lots of rebukes of immoral behavior.

More Detail:

If you love children and families, THE GAME PLAN will make you feel great! It is a very entertaining movie with lots of good moral points, but it is not aimed at being profound, artsy or anything more than what it is.

Disney Studios promised to put Walt back in its name by avoiding foul language, sex and smoking. They have done that here, and the lack of these elements does not take away from the movie’s entertainment or production values.

Joe Kingman is the No. 1 quarterback in the National Football League for the Boston Rebels, but he has never won a Super Bowl. On and off the field, he is stronger, more agile and more egotistical than anyone else. His beautiful apartment features pictures of him, videos of him and displays of his awards.

Into this solipsistic world steps his beautiful, brilliant 8-year-old daughter Peyton. Joe did not know he had a daughter, but is convinced quickly by her birth certificate. Joe’s agent tells him to keep things low key, or it will destroy his merchandising contracts.

For the first time, Joe is actually on his way to the Super Bowl. Having Peyton in his life does not help. She literally turns his world upside down. In the process, she transforms Joe from a solipsistic jerk into a loving father whose priorities are in order.

THE GAME PLAN is the type of movie that sophisticated negative nabobs will throw bricks at. It is corny, lovable, moral, decent, and upholds family values. It is the opposite of Rousseauian Romantic. Joe is a guy who follows his heart and has to learn that there’s more to life. The direction is excellent in that there are several characters who may not be the best thespians but who work well because of the structure of the direction. For instance, The Rock’s natural egotism makes his character believable and funny at the same time. He really doesn’t have to act. This part is made for him. Madison Pettis as his daughter, Peyton, is brilliant and should be nominated for an Academy Award because she pulls the movie together. Since this is such a family movie, she probably will not be, however.

THE GAME PLAN has high production values. The editing, sound, lighting, music, and camerawork are of the highest quality, but they serve the story and do not detract from the simple premise that love is more important than fame or fortune.

The box office success of THE GAME PLAN is unpredictable. If children see it, they should love it. MOVIEGUIDE® highly commends it.
