THE HUDSUCKER PROXY

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

It is New York City in 1958 and the president of Hudsucker Industries has just jumped to his death from the 44th floor, 45th if you count the mezzanine. Why did he jump? Wasn't he happy? Why didn't he open the window first? The answers to these questions and much more can be found in the movie THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, a superbly produced and technically stunning visual treat.

Content:

(H, L, V, FR, B) Light humanist, socialist worldview where fate is in control and big-business is inherently evil; 7 mild obscenities & 5 exclamatory profanities; mild, comic violence as 2 men fall from 44th floor, although there are no injuries shown, and several comic slaps and punches; one reference to Hindu religion and importance of karma; and, biblical element of forgiveness when a man receives second chance at life and then forgives his friend.

More Detail:

In HUDSUCKER PROXY, it is New York City in 1958 and the president of Hudsucker Industries has just jumped to his death from the 44th floor–45th if you count the mezzanine. Why did he jump? Wasn’t he happy? Why didn’t he open the window first? Most importantly, what’s the board supposed to do when old man Hudsucker’s controlling stock is about to be released for sale to the general public for any old Tom, Dick or Harry to purchase (i.e. public takeover)? Why…force the stock to fall in price and buy it up themselves, of course. To do that, however, they will need a new president, someone they can really push around, a patsy, a jerk, a proxy, a HUDSUCKER PROXY to be exact.

Not just another rehash of old-Hollywood movie styles, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY is a superbly produced and technically stunning visual treat. The cinematography is dark and moody but alive with style. The actors are tremendous, not a bad performance in the entire cast, and the story, while predictable and politically correct plot-wise (big-business crushes innocent man who prevails against all odds with the help of cold-hearted, tough career woman whose cold heart is thawed by love found in the honest, good-hearted man), is suspenseful and humorous and successfully holds the viewer’s interest throughout. Don’t look down to check your watch, you don’t want to miss this ending.
