What You Need To Know:

LOVE FINDS YOU IN CHARM is about an Amish girl who loves to read Jane Austen. Her father knows and tells her she’ll have to find out for herself if she wants to continue in her Christian faith. He sends her to Charm, Ohio to visit her cousin. Her cousin’s family is in disarray because the husband died, so now the wife has to take care of it by herself, with help from Noah, a tall, muscular Amish young man. Noah takes Emma’s breath away, but she thinks they’re just friends. Then, Emma meets Andy, an international food critic, who loves Emma’s award-winning goat cheese but falls immediately in lust with her.

LOVE FINDS YOU IN CHARM has beautiful, idyllic pastoral scenery. In many ways, the plot reflects a Jane Austen novel, with the battle being between “sense and sensibility.” However, the antagonist, Andy, doesn’t appear on the scene until about 40 percent into the story. So, the movie doesn’t take off until Andy arrives. However, the ending is terrific, so LOVE FINDS YOU IN CHARM is definitely well worth watching.

Content:

(CCC, BBB, A, M) Very strong Christian, moral worldview with overt references to God, faith, prayer, redemption, and forgiveness; no foul language; no violence; no sex, but several kisses; man chopping wood has his shirt rise up, and there’s partial upper male nudity; villain drinks two glasses of wine; no smoking or drugs; and, girl wrestles with leaving her Amish Christian faith.

More Detail:

LOVE FINDS YOU IN CHARM is a charming, beautifully directed and filmed TV movie about a young Amish woman who dreams of seeing the world and reads Jane Austen. In fact, there are echoes of Jane Austen throughout the movie. Regrettably, the plot problem doesn’t occur until halfway through the movie, but it’s a very interesting movie even with this major structural flaw.

The movie opens with Emma driving a convertible sports car along the Pacific Coast Highway, only to be startled back to reality when she has to finish her chores on her family’s Amish farm. Her sister tells her she should be happy, that a young Amish man loves her, but Emma says she doesn’t think she loves him.

At night, Emma sneaks into the barn to read Jane Austen. Her father finds her and tells her it’s time to go to bed and that he has known about her secret reading since she was young. He tells her, Emma, you have to find out for yourself if you want to continue in your Christian faith. He sends her to Charm, Ohio to visit her cousin. Her cousin’s family is in disarray because they have the biggest farm but the husband died, so now the wife has to take care of it by herself, with help from Noah, a tall, blonde, muscular Amish young man.

Noah takes Emma’s breath away, but she thinks they are just friends. Noah has even read Jane Austen and sends Emma to the local library, where she meets a Non-Amish girl, Kelly, whom Emma’s family calls an Englisher. Kelly has fled to Charm and back to her mother to escape an abusive relationship. Emma and Kelly become fast friends, much to the concern of Emma’s aunt.

Emma makes award-winning goat cheese with a secret ingredient. An international food critic, the wealthy Andy, tastes her cheese, meets the beautiful Emma, then falls immediately in lust. Andy is clearly the villain. He even looks slightly devilish. He asks Emma if he can interview her for his food magazine. So, the plot problem is, will Emma run off with the devilish Andy or realize there’s no place like home and accept the love of Noah.

LOVE FINDS YOU IN CHARM has beautiful, idyllic pastoral scenery. The plot in many ways reflects a Jane Austen novel, with the battle being between “sense and sensibility.” However, the antagonist, Andy, doesn’t come on the scene until around 40 percent of the way into the movie. So, the movie doesn’t take off until Andy arrives. At that point, there’s a battle royale between Andy and the blonde, blue-eyed, handsome Noah. The ending is terrific.

LOVE FINDS YOU IN CHARM does not have the wonderful mystery that propelled LOVE FINDS YOU IN SUGARCREEK. It’s a good television movie, worth watching, about a girl who has to find her way back to her Christian faith. It is commended and will be a hit with women who love Amish romance novels.
