The Finalists for the $15,000 Kairos Prizes Revealed! The 12th Annual Kairos Prizes for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays Dr. Ted Baehr, founder of Movieguide®: The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment, announced today 10 finalists for the 12th Annual Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays by First-Time and Beginning Screenwriters and five finalists for the Kairos Pro Prize for Inspiring Screenplays by Established Filmmakers. The two winners will be announced Friday, Feb. 10 at the 25th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry at the Universal Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Sponsored by Pure Flix Streaming and presented annually by Movieguide®, the Kairos Prizes award $15,000 to each winner whose work “greatly increases man’s love or understanding of God.” This year’s finalists are (in alphabetical order): Finalists for the Kairos Prize for Beginning Screenwriters: ABSOLUTE FAITH The fire of a lifetime forces a proud, strong-willed smokejumper home for the first time in years, where he must protect his loved ones while also facing his own past and inability to forgive. FREEDOM UNCHAINED In 1830 Jamaica a troubled man buys a female slave, and the two redeem each other against all odds during the greatest slave uprising of the British Empire. GUARDIAN OF THEIR DREAMS A little girl and her daddy face a divine appointment on Christmas Eve that tests their faith and determines whether or not their God given dreams and the dreams of others will be saved and restored and in turn cause a revival for an entire community. HELPING HANDS A young widow turns away from God when her husband is killed in Afghanistan but renews the relationship when she becomes involved with homeless veterans. LONE MOUNTAIN When a widowed Montana rancher reluctantly volunteers at a camp for children with parents in prison, natural disasters and personal conflicts ignite a life-or-death ordeal. Kairos Pro Prize for Established Filmmakers: DONUTS WITH JERRY When a mysterious stranger becomes stranded after a car accident in a small town at Christmas time, he becomes embroiled in the mayoral election between the ruthless businessman who rules the town and the feisty female owner of the donut shop. HOLIDAY IN HEAVEN When a 9-year-old girl’s beloved older brother is diagnosed with a tumor, her faith in miracles is put to the test. THE GREAT SURRENDER Zachary Foley is a lost soul, but after a tornado puts his mother in a coma, this one-time high school football star finds purpose and experiences unexpected miracles when he’s forced to confront a tragic past he’s lied about. THE HUMBLE WALK A star seminary student means well but when her efforts to help others suddenly end in disaster, she realizes she herself really isn’t sure what God wants of her. She looks to her crusty professor for help, only to find he too is haunted by a dark secret. THE LIVING WATER A 75-year-old black man living his final days in a not-so-nice retirement home and a 20-something white woman with a chip on her shoulder, form an unlikely bond over their shared loneliness and loss which leads them to the banks of the Mississippi River.
