What You Need To Know:
JIGSAW the movie is also a mystery. So, it has a lot of red herrings and plot twists to keep things more interesting. However, it may have too many red herrings. Also, of course, it has lots of gruesome, bloody gore and extreme “torture porn” violence, plus abundant foul language. The vigilante killer makes some Christian, biblical allusions and references, including references to sin, guilt, confession, mercy, deliverance, and salvation. However, he never mentions Jesus or His death on the cross for our sins. Ultimately, JIGSAW has an abhorrent doctrine of salvation, or soteriology.

(PaPaPa, FRFRFR, C, B, LLL, VVV, AA, D, MM) Very strong mixed pagan worldview with false mixed and distorted moral/spiritual theology promoting ultraviolent vigilante justice to force people to confess crimes with some Christian, redemptive references and references to repentance, redemption, salvation, and mercy but there’s too little mercy and no mention of grace or Jesus; at least 64 obscenities (including many “f” words), three strong profanities, 11 light profanities, and medical examiner says some murder weapons apparently had some animal feces on them, which leads police officials to a farm; lots of very strong gruesome, bloody, disturbing torture porn violence violence with some strong and light violence includes man’s head sliced apart by eight or 12 lasers, images of corpse with its face sliced off by buzz saw blade, man’s hand shot off while it holds a bomb detonation device, man’s body sliced by a bunch of lacers in a cone-shaped torture device, man’s leg cut off by wire, people are threatened with hanging to death and whirling buzz saws as their necks are tied to big long chains bringing them closer to the buzz saws and closer to be hung from the ceiling, three characters shot, characters have to cut themselves with buzz saws to release buckets locked on their heads, woman injected with acid and her blood boils out of her face, medical examiners examine bloody corpses, it’s implied woman smothers her crying baby to death then blames her sleeping husband for rolling over on the baby and smothering it, fiery car crash, ; no sex; breasts shown on female corpse in medical examiner’s lab; alcohol use and drunkenness in one scene; brief smoking and woman seems to smoke a puff of marijuana; and, revenge, vigilante justice, man sells motorcycle with faulty brakes, woman frames her husband for their baby’s death, man causes a car crash, woman steals a purse but purse contains medicine that the owner needed to stay alive.

In JIGSAW, the SAW vigilante killer starts torturing and murdering five other guilty criminals again 10 years after he supposedly died, while the authorities investigate whether it may be a copycat killer. JIGSAW is a mystery movie as well as a horror movie, so it throws out a lot of red herrings before the final twist, but it may have too many red herrings, and it contains extreme gruesome violence, abundant foul language, and a false doctrine of salvation.
The movie opens with the police chasing down a criminal with a bomb detonator. As the criminal shouts something about starting a game, they shoot the detonator out of his hand. The criminal is also shot in the stomach. The police think they’ve stopped an attempted bomb attack, but in reality, they’ve started the countdown on a new “game” created by the vicious vigilante killer, Jigsaw, whose real name is John Kramer.
Using recordings to tell his victims what to do if they want to live, Kramer is torturing five people who apparently are guilty of some terrible crime in their past. As the five people die off one by one, Kramer displays their mutilated corpses around town for the police to find.
However, Kramer supposedly died 10 years ago. Also, an autopsy was even performed on his body before it was buried. So, the police, led by shady Detective Halloran, start looking for a copycat killer. Halloran’s suspicions turn to the two medical examiners on the case, a man and a woman. He learns the woman has been visiting dark websites that honor the Jigsaw killer. Meanwhile, the two medical examiners think Halloran may be the copycat killer. They set out to prove it.
As noted above, JIGSAW throws a lot of red herrings at the viewer to deepen the mystery surrounding the vigilante killer’s supposed death years ago. Several twists in the third act drive the plot forward until the final twist occurs.
That said, the movie may have too many red herrings. Also, of course, it has lots of gruesome, bloody gore and extreme “torture porn” violence, as well as abundant foul language. Finally, the vigilante killer makes some Christian, biblical allusions and references, including references to sin, guilt, confession, mercy, deliverance, and salvation. However, he never mentions Jesus or His death on the cross for our sins. Also, he puts these references into his view of retributive justice and punishment. Most of the killer’s victims in JIGSAW turn out to be murderers themselves in some way, but the torture games he sets up for them to escape his bizarre forms of capital punishment are almost impossible to escape unscathed. Ultimately, the killer’s doctrine of salvation, or soteriology, is false and abhorrent, despite the minor positive elements it may contain. In fact, even when one of his victims confesses, the killer murders him anyway.
